Kia Sportage: Hill-start Assist Control (HAC). Multi-Collision Brake (MCB): (if equipped)Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) helps prevent the Kia Sportage from rolling backwards when starting on an incline. It applies the brakes automatically for approximately two seconds.
The brakes release when you press the accelerator or after approximately two seconds, allowing you to move forward.
WARNING
HAC does not replace the need to keep the brakes applied while stopped on a slope. Maintain enough brake pressure to prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards and causing an accident. Release the brake pedal only when you are ready to move forward.
When an air bag deploys in a collision, Multi-Collision Brake can apply the brakes automatically to reduce the risk of a further collision.
System operation
After an air bag deploys, MCB monitors how firmly the brake and accelerator pedals are pressed for a short period. The system operates when both of the following conditions are met:
The vehicle was travelling below 180 km/h (112 mph) at the time of impact.
The brake and accelerator pedals are pressed only lightly.
While MCB is applying the brakes, pressing the brake pedal beyond a certain level gives the driver’s braking input priority over automatic braking. If the driver then releases the brake pedal, MCB continues to apply the brakes automatically.
System cancellation
MCB stops operating under any of the following conditions:
The accelerator pedal is pressed beyond a certain level.
The vehicle comes to a stop.
ESC or an electronic system malfunctions.
The system is unable to operate normally.
Ten seconds have passed since MCB began applying the brakes automatically.
WARNING
MCB slows the vehicle after a collision to reduce the risk of a second impact, but it cannot prevent another collision. You may need to press the accelerator to move away from the collision area and avoid further danger.
Once MCB brings the vehicle to a stop, it stops controlling the brakes.
Depending on the situation, press the brake or accelerator pedal as needed to help prevent a further accident.
