Kia Sportage: Lighting functions
The battery saver function helps prevent the Kia Sportage battery from discharging when the vehicle is parked.
After the engine is switched off, the system automatically turns off the parking lights when the driver’s door is opened.
The position lamps may remain on if the light switch is operated after the engine has been switched off, even when the driver’s door is open.
If you need to keep the lamps on, switch the position lamps off and then on again using the lighting control on the steering column after turning off the engine.
CAUTION
To prevent battery discharge, do not leave the headlights or interior lights on for an extended period while the engine is off.
The Daytime Running Lights (DRL) help other road users see the front of your Kia Sportage during daylight,
particularly around dawn and dusk. The DRL are intended to be on while driving during the day. They illuminate when
the headlight control is in the OFF position or in AUTO when daylight is detected, provided
the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) is released.
Conditions when the DRL are off
The engine is not running.
The engine is running but the parking brake is applied before driving.
The headlights are on.
In AUTO mode, the headlights switch on automatically when it is dark.
The front fog lights are on.
TIP
If you need the position lamps to remain on after switching off the vehicle:
Open the driver’s door.
Switch the position lamps on.
NOTE
Traffic change (Europe)
The low-beam light pattern is asymmetric. In a country where traffic travels on the opposite side of the road, this pattern may dazzle oncoming drivers. ECE regulations require a technical solution to prevent glare, such as an automatic adjustment system, an adhesive screen or lowering the beam. These headlamps are designed to avoid dazzling drivers travelling in the opposite direction.
If your Kia Sportage is equipped with Intelligent Front-lighting System, select Travel Mode in the infotainment system when driving in a country with opposite-direction traffic. Select Setup > Vehicle > Lights > Travel Mode.
You can switch off the daytime running lights by applying the brakes while the headlights are on, then turning the headlights off.
