Rain sensor
Operation
The rain sensor (1) detects rainfall on the windscreen and sets the wiper interval to suit the amount of rain.
Turn the speed control switch (B) to adjust the wiper speed to the conditions.
TIP
Snow can build up on the windscreen while driving and may cause the wipers to stop. This is a normal protective function that helps prevent accidents and damage to the wipers or their motor from excessive load. If the wipers stop, clear the snow from the top or bottom of the windscreen before using them again.
CAUTION
When the ignition switch or ENGINE START/STOP button is in the ON position and the
wiper switch is set to AUTO, take care to avoid injury while the wipers can activate automatically:
Do not touch the upper part of the windscreen where the rain sensor is located.
Do not wipe the area at the top of the windscreen with a damp or wet cloth.
Do not press on the windscreen glass.
Before washing the Kia Sportage, set the wiper switch to OFF (O) to prevent automatic operation. If
the switch is left in AUTO, the wipers may activate during washing and become damaged.
Do not remove the sensor cover at the upper edge of the passenger-side windscreen. Doing so could damage system components, and the damage may not be covered by the vehicle warranty.
Before starting the vehicle in winter, set the wiper switch to OFF (O). The wipers could otherwise
operate against ice and damage the blades. Remove snow and ice and defrost the windscreen before using the wipers.
When tinting the windscreen, prevent tinting fluid from entering the sensor near the top centre of the glass. Fluid could damage related components.

Operation
Set the wiper speed control switch to OFF (O).
Activate the washer for the windscreen you want to clean:
Front windscreen (1): Gently pull the lever towards you. ![]()
Rear windscreen (2): Gently push the lever away from you. ![]()
Repeat the washer operation as needed.
WARNING
In freezing weather, warm the windscreen with the defrosters before using the washer. Washer fluid may freeze on cold glass and block your view.
CAUTION
Do not run the washer when its reservoir is empty, as this may damage the washer pump.
Do not operate the wipers on a dry windscreen; the blades or glass could be damaged.
Do not use petrol, kerosene, paint thinner or other solvents on or near the wiper blades. These substances may damage them.
Do not move the wipers by hand, as this may damage the wiper arms or other components.
Use washer fluid with antifreeze protection in winter or cold weather to help prevent damage to the wipers and washer system.
