Kia Sportage: Auto stop
Manual transmission
Reduce the vehicle speed to below 5 km/h (3 mph).
Shift into N (Neutral).
Release the clutch pedal.
Automatic transmission or dual clutch transmission
Bring the vehicle to a complete stop at 0 km/h (0 mph).
Press the brake pedal.
The engine will stop, and the green AUTO STOP indicator
will illuminate on the instrument cluster.
NOTE
Since the previous idle stop, a vehicle with a manual transmission must reach at least 8 km/h (5 mph). A vehicle with an automatic or dual clutch transmission must reach at least 5 km/h (3 mph).
ISG will deactivate if the driver’s seat belt is unfastened, or if the driver’s door or engine bonnet is opened.
On Kia Sportage models equipped with Smart Cruise Control, ISG can operate when its operating conditions are satisfied.
On Kia Sportage Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle models, the ISG system provides three ways for the engine to stop automatically while the vehicle is slowing down or stationary.
Manual transmission
Conventional Idle STOP
Reduce the vehicle speed to below approximately 7 km/h (4 mph).
Shift into N (Neutral).
Release the clutch pedal.
Extended Idle STOP
Reduce the vehicle speed to below approximately 25 km/h (15 mph).
Shift into N (Neutral).
Press both the clutch and brake pedals.
During coasting mode
To keep the engine switched off as the vehicle coasts to a stop, press the clutch and brake pedals almost simultaneously.
NOTE
Idle STOP will not activate if 1st gear was the last gear selected.
After each idle stop, a manual transmission vehicle must reach a speed of at least approximately 8 km/h (5 mph) before the system can activate again.
While ISG STOP is active, you can shift into N (Neutral) and release the clutch pedal; the system will remain in STOP mode.
Extended Idle STOP can operate above approximately 7 km/h (4 mph), provided the speed requirement for the selected gear is met. For example, it can activate in 3rd gear at 30 km/h (20 mph).
ISG will deactivate if the driver’s seat belt is unfastened or the driver’s door or engine bonnet is opened.
Automatic transmission or dual clutch transmission
Conventional Idle STOP
Bring the vehicle to a complete stop at 0 km/h (0 mph).
Press the brake pedal.
Extended Idle STOP
Reduce the vehicle speed to below 25 km/h (15 mph).
Press the brake pedal.
During coasting mode
To keep the engine switched off as the vehicle coasts to a stop, press the brake pedal while travelling below approximately 40 km/h (25 mph).
NOTE
After each idle stop, an automatic or dual clutch transmission vehicle must reach a speed of at least approximately 30 km/h (20 mph) for Extended Idle STOP, or approximately 5 km/h (3 mph) for Conventional Idle STOP, before the system can operate again.
When the vehicle is stopped in Auto Stop mode, ISG will deactivate if the driver’s seat belt is unfastened or the driver’s door or engine bonnet is opened.
ISG can operate on Kia Sportage models equipped with Smart Cruise Control when the required operating conditions are met.
