Kia Sportage: Automatic Reverse. Setting the Power TailgateIf the power tailgate detects an obstacle while moving, it stops or opens fully to help reduce the risk of contact.
Operating Condition
An obstacle is detected in the tailgate’s path.
When Automatic Reverse May Not Operate
The detected resistance is below a certain level.
The tailgate is almost fully closed and near the latch.
A strong impact occurs when no obstruction is present.
WARNING
Never put an object or any part of your body in the path of the power tailgate to test the automatic reverse feature. Doing so may cause serious injury or damage to the vehicle or the object.
TIP
If automatic reverse activates more than twice while you are trying to open or close the tailgate, the power tailgate may stop operating. If this happens, carefully open or close the tailgate manually. Wait 30 seconds, then try operating it automatically again.
Choose an opening speed or height in the settings menu to use the corresponding feature. You can deselect a setting when you do not want to use it.

Infotainment menus may change after software updates. For detailed instructions on the current settings, consult the infotainment system’s web manual.
