Kia Sportage: Brake/clutch fluid. Checking brake/clutch fluid level. Washer fluid. Checking washer fluid level![]() |
Procedure
Clean the area around the reservoir cap before opening it, so dirt cannot enter the fluid system.
Check the fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir regularly. It should remain between the MIN and
MAX marks. The level may gradually fall as the vehicle accumulates mileage; this is normally
associated with wear of the brake linings.
Continue to check the reservoir periodically and do not allow the level to fall below MIN or rise above
MAX. Never mix different types of fluid.
Use only the specified brake or clutch fluid. Refer to the “Brake/clutch fluid” section for the applicable specification.
Caution
To maintain the Kia Sportage braking system and ABS/ESC performance, use genuine Kia brake fluid or fluid that meets the equivalent specification.
Tip
If the fluid level is unusually low, have the system inspected by a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.

Procedure
Check the level in the washer fluid reservoir and top it up when necessary. If washer fluid is unavailable, plain water may be used.
In cold climates, use washer fluid with antifreeze properties to help prevent the fluid from freezing.
The reservoir is translucent, allowing you to check its fluid level with a quick visual inspection.
Warning
Do not put radiator coolant or antifreeze in the washer fluid reservoir.
If radiator coolant is sprayed onto the windscreen, it can severely obstruct your view, which may lead to loss of vehicle control. It can also damage the paint and body trim.
Windscreen washer fluid contains alcohol and may be flammable in certain conditions. Keep sparks and open flames away from the fluid and its reservoir to avoid injury or vehicle damage.
Windscreen washer fluid is poisonous to people and animals. Do not drink it, and avoid contact with the fluid. Swallowing it or other exposure may cause serious injury or death.
