Kia Sportage: Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) (Sensor Fusion): (if equipped)Basic function
|
Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist can detect a vehicle, powered two-wheeler, pedestrian or cyclist ahead. If it identifies a potential collision risk, the system may alert the driver with an instrument-cluster message, an audible warning and steering-wheel vibration, if equipped. It may also assist with braking to reduce the impact speed or help avoid a collision.
At higher speeds, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist can detect vehicles ahead and in adjacent lanes. If the driver changes lanes in these conditions and a collision risk is detected, the Kia Sportage may apply emergency braking to help mitigate or avoid the impact, if equipped.
Junction Turning function
|
When turning left in a right-hand-drive vehicle or right in a left-hand-drive vehicle at an intersection with the turn signal activated, Junction Turning can warn the driver or apply emergency braking to help avoid a collision with an oncoming vehicle, motorcyclist or cyclist in an adjacent lane.
Junction Crossing function: (if equipped)
|
When the Kia Sportage is crossing an intersection, Junction Crossing can apply emergency braking to help avoid a collision with an oncoming vehicle approaching from the left or right.
Direct Oncoming function
|
|
When the system detects a vehicle or powered two-wheeler approaching from the opposite direction, Direct Oncoming can help reduce the vehicle’s speed at the point of impact.
Lane-Change Oncoming function: (if equipped)
|
|
During a lane change, Lane-Change Oncoming can assist the driver’s steering to help avoid a collision with an oncoming vehicle or powered two-wheeler.
Lane-Change Side function: (if equipped)
|
|
Vehicle approaching from the side
When the driver changes lanes, Lane-Change Side can assist with steering to help avoid a collision with a vehicle or powered two-wheeler in the adjacent lane.
Evasive Steering Assist function: (if equipped)
|
|
Driver steering assistance
If the system detects a possible collision with a vehicle, pedestrian, cyclist or powered two-wheeler ahead and the driver steers to avoid it, Evasive Steering Assist can provide steering assistance.
Evasive steering assistance
Within its operating area, Evasive Steering Assist can help the driver steer around a vehicle, pedestrian, cyclist or powered two-wheeler. When it detects a collision risk, the system warns the driver and can assist with steering if the driver turns the steering wheel.

Detecting sensor
For the applicable sensors and their locations on the Kia Sportage, refer to “Detecting sensor(s).”
CAUTION
Do not disassemble or damage a detecting sensor or its assembly.
If a detecting sensor is replaced or repaired, have the vehicle inspected by a professional workshop. Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
An impact to the radar or the area around it may affect Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, even if no warning message appears on the instrument cluster. Kia recommends having the Kia Sportage inspected by an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
Do not attach accessories or stickers to the front windscreen, and do not tint it.
Take care to keep the front view camera dry.
Do not place reflective items, such as white paper or a mirror, on the instrument panel.
Do not place objects near the front windscreen or fit accessories to it. They may interfere with the climate control system’s defogging or defrosting performance and prevent driver assistance systems from operating.
Do not fit a licence plate frame or place objects such as bumper stickers, film or a bumper guard near the front radar cover.
Keep the front radar and its cover clean and free of dirt and debris.
Wash these areas with a soft cloth. Do not direct pressurised water at a sensor or its cover.
Genuine Kia front, front-corner and rear-corner radar sensor covers are designed to meet the required quality and performance standards. Applying paint to a cover or replacing it with an unapproved part may prevent Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist from operating correctly.
When repairing or replacing radar sensor covers, use Kia Genuine Parts or parts of an equivalent standard with proven quality and performance.
The system may not work correctly if a bumper has been replaced, or if the area around a front- or rear-corner radar has been damaged or repainted.
Installing a trailer, carrier or similar equipment may adversely affect Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and prevent it from operating correctly.
Do not attach objects such as accessories, mouldings, stickers, films or packaging to a detecting sensor or the area around it. Do not paint the bumper.
Wheel and tyre installation
When removing or installing a wheel, use the hub-cap removal tool stored in the tool case to remove the hub cap.
The tool’s insertion point is at the top or along the edge of the hub cap.
