Kia Sportage: Intelligent Speed Limit Assist malfunction and limitations
![]() |
A: Check Driver Assistance system |
If ISLA detects a system fault, a warning message appears on the instrument cluster for several seconds. The Master
Warning Light (
) and the ISLA indicator (
) also illuminate.
If this occurs, have the system inspected by an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.

A: Driver Assistance system limited. Camera obscured. |
If snow, rain or other foreign material covers the windscreen in front of the Kia Sportage’s front view camera, the
camera’s detection performance may be reduced. ISLA may then be temporarily limited or disabled. A warning message,
the Master Warning Light (
) and the ISLA
indicator (
) appear on the instrument
cluster.
Remove the snow, rain or other material from the affected area of the windscreen. ISLA should operate correctly once the camera’s view is clear.
If the system still does not work correctly after the obstruction has been removed, have it inspected by an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
WARNING
ISLA may not operate correctly even if no warning message or indicator is visible on the instrument cluster.
If a sensor remains blocked or a fault persists, restarting the vehicle may not restore normal ISLA operation. The system can remain limited until the obstruction or fault has been resolved.
NOTE
You can review the system status in the service message shown in the instrument cluster’s utility information view.
Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA) may not identify speed limits correctly or may respond unexpectedly in certain conditions. In the Kia Sportage, sign recognition and navigation information can be affected by visibility, road layout, camera view and other factors, including:
A road sign is dirty, unclear or difficult to distinguish:
Rain, snow, fog or other poor weather makes the sign hard to see.
Nearby objects or shadows partly cover the sign.
A road sign does not follow the expected standard:
The wording or symbol on the sign differs from the standard sign.
The sign is positioned between the main carriageway and an exit, or between roads that split.
The sign is attached to another vehicle.
The road sign is a long distance from the vehicle.
The vehicle passes an illuminated road sign.
ISLA mistakes numbers or symbols on a street sign or another sign for a speed limit.
A sign beside a different road is detected instead of the sign that applies to your route.
Several road signs are positioned close together.
A minimum speed limit sign is misidentified.
A minimum speed limit sign is present on the road.
Brightness changes suddenly, such as when entering or leaving a tunnel or passing beneath a bridge.
The headlights are off or too dim when driving at night or through a tunnel.
Sun glare obstructs the front view camera’s field of view.
Reflections from sunlight, streetlights or oncoming vehicles make road signs difficult to recognise.
Navigation or GPS information is inaccurate.
The driver does not follow the route guidance provided by the navigation system.
The road has a sharp bend or a series of continuous curves.
The vehicle passes over speed bumps or moves up, down or sideways on steep inclines.
The vehicle is shaking heavily.
The vehicle is travelling on a newly built road.
The road is under construction.
The navigation software updates while the vehicle is moving.
The navigation system restarts while the vehicle is moving.
WARNING
ISLA is a driver assistance function intended to help you follow the posted speed limit. It may display an incorrect limit or may not control the vehicle’s speed as expected.
The driver is responsible for observing and following the applicable speed limit.
ISLA may be unavailable for approximately 15 seconds after the vehicle is started or while the front view camera initialises or restarts.
NOTE
For information about front view camera limitations, refer to “Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) (Sensor Fusion)”.
