Warnings and control

Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA) presents information and alerts in stages, depending on the driving situation:

Displaying the speed limit

Kia Sportage instrument cluster displaying detected speed limit information

ISLA displays detected speed limit information on the instrument cluster.

NOTE

  • If the system cannot recognise the road’s speed limit, “---” appears in place of the limit. If road signs are difficult to detect, refer to “Intelligent Speed Limit Assist malfunction and limitations”.

  • In addition to speed limits, ISLA can display information from other road signs. The additional signs shown vary by country.

  • In Europe, a supplementary sign displayed beneath a speed limit or overtaking restriction sign indicates the conditions under which the restriction applies. If ISLA cannot recognise the supplementary sign, that part of the display remains blank.

  • The appearance and colours of instrument cluster graphics may vary according to the cluster type or the selected theme.

Speeding warning

If the Kia Sportage exceeds the displayed speed limit, the speed limit sign flashes on the instrument cluster and an audible warning sounds.

Changing the set speed

If the speed limit changes while Manual Speed Limit Assist or Smart Cruise Control is operating, an upward or downward arrow appears to show that the set speed should be adjusted. The driver can use the (+) or (−) switch on the steering wheel to change the set speed to match the new limit.

Automatic set-speed adjustment (if equipped with navigation)

Kia Sportage instrument cluster showing automatic set-speed adjustment based on the road speed limit

When Manual Speed Limit Assist or Smart Cruise Control is active, and the driver’s set speed matches the road’s speed limit, the system can automatically adjust the set speed as the limit changes. This function operates on roads with speed limits above 70 km/h (45 mph). When automatic adjustment is active, the set speed appears in green on the instrument cluster.

WARNING

  • Even after the set speed has been adjusted to match the road limit, the vehicle may still travel faster than that limit. Press the brake pedal when necessary to reduce speed.

  • When the road’s speed limit is below 30 km/h (20 mph), neither set-speed adjustment nor automatic set-speed adjustment operates.

  • ISLA uses the speed unit selected for the instrument cluster. If that unit differs from the one used in your country, ISLA may not operate correctly. This does not apply in Australia or Russia.

NOTE

  • For details about Manual Speed Limit Assist, refer to “Manual Speed Limit Assist (MSLA)”.

  • For details about Smart Cruise Control, refer to “Smart Cruise Control (SCC)”.
