Kia Sportage: Maintenance Services
Owner's Responsibility
- Arrange servicing for your Kia Sportage through a qualified workshop. Kia recommends using an authorised Kia
dealer or service partner.
- Keep records and documents showing that the vehicle has been properly maintained.
- Be prepared to show that you have followed the servicing and maintenance requirements set out in the vehicle
warranties.
- When the vehicle is covered by warranty, repairs or adjustments required because of improper maintenance or
failure to carry out required maintenance are not covered.
NOTE
The owner is responsible for arranging maintenance services and retaining the related records.
Owner Maintenance Precautions
Incorrect or incomplete servicing can lead to problems with the Kia Sportage. This section covers only maintenance
tasks that are considered straightforward for an owner to perform.
NOTE
Improper owner-performed maintenance during the warranty period may affect warranty coverage. For full details,
consult the separate Warranty and Maintenance booklet supplied with the vehicle. If you are unsure how to carry out a
procedure, have the Kia Sportage serviced by a qualified workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or
service partner.
Diesel Engine Compartment Precautions: If Equipped
- The piezo injector operates at high voltage, up to 200 V.
- While the engine is running, do not touch the injectors, injector wiring, or engine computer.
- Do not disconnect an injector connector while the engine is running.
- Anyone using a pacemaker must stay away from the engine compartment while the engine is being started or is
running.
WARNING
Maintenance Work
- Servicing a vehicle can be hazardous, and some maintenance procedures may cause serious injury. If you do not have
the necessary knowledge, experience, tools, or equipment, have the work carried out by a qualified workshop. Kia
recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
- Working under the bonnet while the engine is running is dangerous. Jewellery or loose clothing can become caught
in moving parts and cause injury. If the engine must be running during work under the bonnet, remove all jewellery,
including rings, bracelets, watches, and necklaces, as well as ties, scarves, and other loose clothing before
approaching the engine or cooling fans.
- Never work on the injection system while the engine is running or within 30 seconds after switching it off. The
high-pressure pump, rail, injectors, and pipes remain under high pressure after the engine stops. Escaping fuel can
form a jet that may cause serious injury if it contacts the body. Anyone using a pacemaker must remain at least 30
cm (12 in.) from the engine-room ECU and wiring harness while the engine is running, because high currents in the
electronic engine control system produce strong magnetic fields.
WARNING
Diesel Engine
Never service the injection system while the engine is running or within 30 seconds after shutting it off. The
high-pressure pump, rail, injectors, and high-pressure pipes remain pressurised even after the engine has stopped.
Fuel escaping under pressure can cause serious injury if the spray contacts the body. Anyone using a pacemaker must
stay at least 30 cm from the ECU and engine-room wiring harness while the engine is running, as high currents in the
electronic engine control system create considerable magnetic fields.
CAUTION
- Do not place heavy items on the engine cover, if equipped, or on fuel-system components, and do not apply
excessive force to them.
- For inspection of the fuel system, including fuel lines and fuel-injection components, contact a qualified
workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
- Do not drive the Kia Sportage for an extended period with the engine cover removed.
- Keep flames away from the engine compartment. Fuel, washer fluid, and other fluids may be flammable and can cause
a fire.
- Before touching the battery, ignition cables, or electrical wiring, disconnect the battery’s negative (−) terminal
to reduce the risk of electric shock.
- When removing an interior trim cover with a flat-head screwdriver, take care not to damage the cover.
- Use caution when replacing or cleaning bulbs to avoid burns or electric shock.
