Kia Sportage: Owner Maintenance. Owner Maintenance Schedule
Owner Maintenance Schedule
When You Stop for Fuel
- Check the coolant level in the coolant reservoir.
- Check the windscreen washer fluid level.
- Check the tyres for low pressure or underinflation.
WARNING
Take care when checking the coolant level while the engine is hot. Pressurised, hot coolant or steam may escape
suddenly and cause burns or other serious injury.
While Operating Your Vehicle
As you drive the Kia Sportage, pay attention to changes in how it sounds, steers, brakes, and responds. These checks
can help you notice developing problems early.
- Listen for a change in exhaust noise and notice any exhaust fumes inside the vehicle.
- Check for steering-wheel vibration, increased steering effort, looseness, or a change in the wheel’s usual
straight-ahead position.
- On a smooth, level road, notice whether the Kia Sportage continually drifts or pulls to one side.
- When braking, listen for unusual sounds and notice whether the vehicle pulls to one side, the brake pedal travels
farther than usual, or the pedal is unusually hard to press.
- If the transmission slips or its operation changes, check the transmission fluid level.
- Check that the parking brake operates correctly.
- Look beneath the vehicle for fluid leaks. Water dripping from the air conditioning system while it is operating or
after use is normal.
At Least Once a Month
- Check the coolant level in the engine coolant reservoir.
- Check that all exterior lights work, including the stoplights, turn signals, and hazard warning flashers.
- Check the inflation pressure of every tyre, including the spare. Look for wear, uneven tread wear, or damage.
- Check that the wheel lug nuts are secure.
At Least Twice a Year
- Inspect the radiator, heater, and air conditioning hoses for leaks or damage.
- Check the windscreen washer spray and wiper operation. Clean the wiper blades with a clean cloth dampened with
washer fluid.
- Check that the headlights are correctly aligned.
- Inspect the muffler, exhaust pipes, heat shields, and clamps.
- Check the seat belts for wear and make sure the lap and shoulder belts function correctly.
At Least Once a Year
- Clean the body and door drain holes to keep them clear.
- Lubricate the door hinges and checks, as well as the bonnet hinges.
- Lubricate the door and bonnet locks and latches.
- Lubricate the door rubber weatherstrips.
- Have the Kia Sportage air conditioning system checked.
- Inspect and lubricate the automatic transmission linkage and controls.
- Clean the battery and its terminals.
