Rear View Monitor Malfunction

If the Rear View Monitor malfunctions, its display may appear green, blue, or black. If the system does not operate correctly, the screen flickers, or the camera image is unclear or missing, Kia recommends having the Kia Sportage inspected by an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.

Limitations of the Rear View Monitor

If the Kia Sportage remains stationary for a long time in winter or is parked in an indoor car park, exhaust fumes may temporarily obscure the camera image.

An abnormal screen may appear, accompanied by a warning icon in the upper-left corner of the infotainment display, in the following situation:

• The tailgate is open.

• The wide-rear-view camera does not show the entire area behind the vehicle. Before parking or reversing, check the surroundings directly using the interior and exterior rear-view mirrors, and look around the vehicle.
• The distance to an object shown on the screen may differ from its actual distance because the Rear View Monitor image is calibrated from the wide-rear-view camera. If the vehicle is tilted by its cargo load, the rear parking guidelines may also be inaccurate. Check the area around the vehicle directly before moving.
• Keep the wide-rear-view camera lens clean. Dirt or other foreign material on the lens can reduce camera performance and prevent the Rear View Monitor from operating correctly. Do not clean the lens with chemical solvents, including strong alkaline detergents or volatile organic solvents such as petrol or acetone, as these can damage it.
• Driving with the tailgate open is not recommended. If it is open, take particular care to maintain safety.
