For guidance on choosing the correct engine oil viscosity, refer to Recommended SAE Viscosity Number.

*1 Use engine oil meeting API SN PLUS or a higher specification and labelled Full Synthetic. If a lower-grade oil is used, such as mineral oil, semi-synthetic oil or oil with a lower specification, replace the engine oil and filter at the interval specified for severe usage conditions.

*2 Use engine oil meeting API SN PLUS or a higher specification, or ILSAC GF-6, and labelled Full Synthetic. If a lower-grade oil is used, such as mineral oil, semi-synthetic oil or oil with a lower specification, replace the engine oil and filter at the interval specified for severe usage conditions.

*3 Use Full Synthetic engine oil meeting API SN PLUS or a higher specification, or ACEA A5/B5. If a lower-grade oil is used, such as mineral oil, semi-synthetic oil or oil with a lower specification, replace the engine oil and filter at the interval specified for severe usage conditions.

*4 Use Full Synthetic engine oil meeting ACEA C5, C2 or C3. If a lower-grade oil is used, such as mineral oil, semi-synthetic oil or oil with a lower specification, replace the engine oil and filter at the interval specified for severe usage conditions.

*5 Using oil other than the genuine fluid developed for the transmission may affect transmission performance.

*6 To help maintain the braking and ABS/ESC performance of your Kia Sportage, use Kia genuine brake fluid or a brake fluid that meets the specified equivalent standard.

API engine oil certification mark Engine oil displaying this American Petroleum Institute (API) Certification Mark meets the requirements of the International Lubricant Specification Advisory Committee (ILSAC). Kia recommends using engine oil that carries this API Certification Mark.

CAUTION

Before checking or draining lubricant, clean the area around the filler plug, drain plug or dipstick. This is especially important in dusty or sandy conditions and when the Kia Sportage is driven on unpaved roads. Cleaning these areas helps prevent dirt and grit from entering the engine or other mechanisms, where they could cause damage.

Engine oil viscosity, or thickness, affects fuel economy and cold-weather operation, including engine starting and oil flow. Lower-viscosity oil can support fuel economy and cold-weather performance, while higher-viscosity oil is needed to provide satisfactory lubrication in hot conditions. When choosing oil, consider the range of temperatures in which your Kia Sportage will be driven before the next oil change.

NOTE

Do not add additives to the engine oil. They can change the oil’s properties and may cause serious engine damage.

Use the temperature chart to select the recommended oil viscosity for the conditions in which the vehicle will be operated before its next oil change.
