Kia Sportage: Removing and Storing the Spare Tyre

Procedure

1. Lift out the luggage board cover to access the spare tyre and its retaining hardware.

2. Turn the tyre hold-down wing bolt counterclockwise to release it. If the bolt is difficult to loosen by hand, use the wheel lug nut wrench to turn it.

   • Use the wheel lug nut wrench to turn the hold-down wing bolt counterclockwise if needed.

     Handle the wrench carefully because its edges may be sharp.

3. After use, return the spare tyre and tools to their storage positions by following the removal steps in reverse order. Secure them properly so they do not rattle while the Kia Sportage is moving.

WARNING

• When the original tyre is stored underneath the vehicle after the spare has been fitted, ground clearance is reduced. In particular, drive below 30 km/h (18 mph) when crossing speed bumps or travelling on uphill, downhill, or uneven roads.
• Never attempt to repair the Kia Sportage in a traffic lane on a public road or highway.
• Before changing a tyre, move the vehicle completely off the road and onto the shoulder. Use the jack only on firm, level ground. If you cannot find a suitable place away from traffic, contact a towing service for assistance.
• Use only the designated front and rear jacking points. Never support the jack under a bumper or any other part of the vehicle.
• The vehicle could roll off the jack, causing serious injury or death.
• Never get underneath a vehicle supported by a jack.
• Do not start or run the engine while the Kia Sportage is raised on the jack.
• Do not allow anyone to remain inside the vehicle while it is supported by the jack.
• Make sure children are in a secure place, well away from the road and from the vehicle being raised.
• Align the spare tyre retainer with the centre of the tyre and secure it correctly. If the retainer is not properly aligned, the spare tyre may rattle, come loose from its carrier, and cause an accident.
