Procedure
Gently open the key cover, taking care not to damage the case.
Remove the old battery and fit a new one of the correct type.
When installing the replacement battery, check that it is positioned with the correct polarity. The Kia Sportage remote key and smart key use different battery types:
Remote key: CR2032
Smart key: CR2450
If the battery is installed with the polarity reversed, it may discharge and the key will not work.
WARNING
THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS A BUTTON BATTERY.
If swallowed, a lithium button battery can cause severe or fatal injuries within two hours.
Keep all batteries out of the reach of children.
If you think a battery may have been swallowed or placed inside any part of the body, seek immediate medical attention.
WARNING
Leaving children unattended in a vehicle with the keys is dangerous, even when the vehicle is in the ACC or ON position.
Children left unsupervised could insert the mechanical key into the ignition switch or press the ENGINE START/STOP button. They could also operate the power windows or other controls, or cause the vehicle to move. This could result in serious bodily injury or death.
Never leave the keys in the Kia Sportage with children who are unsupervised, especially while the engine is running.
CAUTION
The remote key and smart key are designed for years of normal use, but exposure to moisture or static electricity can cause them to malfunction. If you are unsure how to use the key or replace its battery, Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
Using the wrong battery may cause the remote key or smart key to malfunction. Make sure the replacement matches the correct battery type for your key.
To help prevent damage, do not drop the remote key or smart key, expose it to moisture, or leave it in direct sunlight or near a source of heat.
Batteries that are disposed of improperly can harm the environment and human
health. Dispose of the used battery in accordance with local laws and regulations.
