Kia Sportage: Using the Remote Key (If Equipped)![]() |
|
Operation
Press the button for the function you want to use.
To fold the mechanical key into the remote, press and hold the mechanical key release button (4) while folding the key.
When the Remote Key May Not Operate
The mechanical key is inserted in the ignition switch.
The key is outside its operating range, approximately 10 m (30 ft.).
The key battery is weak.
Another vehicle or an object is blocking the signal.
The weather is extremely cold.
The key is near a radio transmitter, such as one at a radio station or airport, that may interfere with the remote key signal.
TIP
When you press the lock or unlock button (1 or 2), the hazard warning lights flash once and the chime sounds once to confirm that the doors are locked.
After you press the unlock button (2), the doors lock again automatically if you do not open a door within 30 seconds.
Press and hold the tailgate unlock button (3) to unlock the tailgate. Once the tailgate has been opened and closed, it locks automatically.
If a door, the bonnet or the tailgate is open, the hazard warning lights do not flash.
WARNING
Never leave the keys in the vehicle with children who are unsupervised.
Leaving children unattended in the Kia Sportage with the keys is dangerous, even when the vehicle is in the ACC or ON position.
An unsupervised child could insert the key into the ignition switch or press the ENGINE START/STOP button, operate the power windows or other controls, or cause the vehicle to move. This could result in serious bodily injury or death. Never leave the keys with children who are unsupervised while the engine is running.
Kia recommends using replacement parts supplied by an authorised Kia dealer or service partner. If an aftermarket key is used, the vehicle may not return to the ON position after START. The starter could then continue operating, potentially damaging the starter motor or causing a fire due to excessive current in the wiring.
CAUTION
Do not fold the mechanical key without pressing the release button. Forcing it closed may damage the key.
NOTE
Keep the remote key away from water, other liquids and fire. If liquid or moisture enters the key, or the key is exposed to heat, its internal circuit may malfunction. Damage caused in this way may not be covered by the vehicle warranty.
Do not drop or throw the remote key, as an impact may damage it.
Protect the remote key from extreme temperatures.
If the remote key does not work correctly, use the mechanical key to unlock or lock the door. If the problem continues, Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
A mobile phone or smartphone held close to the remote key may interfere with its transmitter signal during normal phone operation. This is especially likely while making or receiving calls, sending text messages, or sending or receiving emails.
Avoid carrying the remote key and your mobile phone or smartphone in the same trouser or jacket pocket. Keep enough distance between the two devices to reduce the chance of signal interference.
