Kia Sportage: Scheduled maintenance service - MaintenanceKia Sportage: Scheduled maintenance service

Kia Sportage Owner’s Manual (5th Generation, NQ5; 2022+) / Maintenance / Scheduled maintenance service

If your vehicle is operated in any of the severe driving conditions, you should inspect, replace or refill more frequently, using the severe usage maintenance schedule instead of the normal usage maintenance schedule.

Normal maintenance schedule - Petrol engine for Europe (Except Russia)

NOTE

For Smartstream G1.6 T-GDi (EURO 7)

The vehicle may be equipped with the Oil Life Management System that predicts engine oil life based on the driver’s driving history and alerts the driver to change engine oil.

  • If the deterioration of the engine oil increases depending on the driver’s driving severity, the remaining oil life alert appears on the instrument cluster before the normal engine oil replacement interval. Have the engine oil and filter be changed by an authorised Kia dealer/service partner.

  • Oil Life Management System works when the recommended engine oil is used. So, if recommended engine oil is not used, replace the engine oil according to the maintenance schedule under severe usage condition.

Also, check the amount of engine oil regularly as this system assumes that the engine oil is being filled normally.

  • Always reset the remaining engine oil life whenever the engine oil is changed. Otherwise, the Oil Life Management System will not be correct.

  • If there is no alert until the maximum maintenance interval, have vehicle be checked by an authorised Kia dealer/service partner.

I: Inspect and if necessary, adjust, correct, clean or replace.

R: Replace or change.

Engine oil and engine oil filter

As it is normal for engine oil to be consumed during driving, the engine oil level should be checked on regular basis.

The engine oil change interval for normal operating conditions is based on the use of the recommended engine specification. If the recommended engine oil specification is not used, then replace the engine oil according to the maintenance schedule under severe operating conditions.

Never add any additives to the engine oil. Engine oil additives can change the properties of engine oil and may cause serious engine failure.

Coolant (Engine, WCAC*)

When adding coolant, use only deionized water or soft water for your vehicle and never mix hard water in the coolant filled at the factory. An improper coolant mixture can result in serious malfunction or engine damage.

For your convenience, it can be replaced prior to its interval when you are doing other maintenance tasks.

WCAC: water cooled charge air cooler

Drive belts (Engine)

Inspect alternator, water pump and air conditioner drive belt and if necessary repair or replace.

Inspect drive belt tensioner, idler and alternator pulley and if necessary correct or replace.

Spark plug

For your convenience, it can be replaced prior to its interval when you do maintenance of other items.

Rear differential oil (AWD)

Differential oil should be changed anytime it has been submerged in water.

Transfer case oil (AWD)

Transfer case oil should be changed anytime it has been submerged in water.

Fuel additives

Kia recommends that you use unleaded petrol which has an octane rating of RON (Research Octane Number) 95/AKI (Anti Knock Index) 91 or higher.

For customers who do not use good quality petrols including fuel additives regularly, and have problems starting or the engine does not run smoothly, one bottle of additives should be added to the fuel tank when the engine oil is replaced. Additives are available from a professional workshop along with information on how to use them. Kia recommends that you visit an authorised Kia dealer/service partner. Do not mix other additives.

*Transmission fluid

Transmission fluid should be changed anytime it has been submerged in water.

Engine oil and engine oil filter (Diesel)

The engine oil level should be checked regularly and maintained properly. Operating with an insufficient amount oil can damage the engine, and such damage is not covered by warranty.

This maintenance schedule depends on fuel quality. It is applicable only when using a qualified fuel <"EN590 or equivalent">. If the diesel fuel specifications don't meet the EN590, it must be replaced according to the severe maintenance schedule.

Never add any additives to the engine oil. Engine oil additives can change the properties of engine oil and may cause serious engine failure.

Coolant (Engine)

When adding coolant, use only deionized water or soft water for your vehicle and never mix hard water in the coolant filled at the factory. An improper coolant mixture can result in serious malfunction or engine damage.

For your convenience, it can be replaced prior to its interval when you are doing other maintenance tasks.

Drive belts (Engine)

Inspect alternator, water pump and air conditioner drive belt and if necessary repair or replace.

Inspect drive belt tensioner, idler and alternator pulley and if necessary correct or replace.

Rear differential oil (AWD)

Differential oil should be changed anytime it has been submerged in water.

Transfer case oil (AWD)

Transfer case oil should be changed anytime it has been submerged in water.

Fuel filter cartridge (Diesel)

This maintenance schedule depends on fuel quality. It is applicable only when using a qualified fuel <"EN590 or equivalent">. If the diesel fuel specifications don't meet the EN590, it must be replaced more frequently. If there are some important safety matters like fuel flow restriction, surging, loss of power, hard starting problem etc., replace the fuel filter immediately regardless of maintenance schedule and consult a professional workshop. Kia recommends that you consult an authorised Kia dealer/service partner.

Kia recommends that you use unleaded petrol which has an octane rating of RON (Research Octane Number) 91/AKI (Anti-Knock Index) 87 or higher.

Fuel filter cartridge (Diesel)

This maintenance schedule depends on fuel quality. It is applicable only when using a qualified fuel <"EN590 or equivalent">. If the diesel fuel specifications don’t meet the EN590, it must be replaced more frequently. Kia recommend "every 7,500 km (5,000 miles) inspection, every 15,000 km (10,000 miles) replacement". If there are some important safety matters like fuel flow restriction, surging, loss of power, hard starting problem etc., replace the fuel filter immediately regardless of maintenance schedule and consult a professional workshop. Kia recommends that ypu consult an authorised Kia dealer/service partner.

*Transmission fluid

Transmission fluid should be changed anytime it has been submerged in water.
