Operation
Press the steering wheel heater button. Its indicator will illuminate to show that heating is on and the steering wheel is warming.

If you select level 2 (Strong), the heater automatically switches to level 1 (Weak) after about 30 minutes.
If you do not change the setting manually, the heater remains at level 1 (Weak) until the vehicle is switched off.
TIP
While the Kia Sportage is running, the steering wheel heater adjusts its temperature in response to the surrounding temperature. For more information, refer to the section on the Smart Temperature Comfort Control System for the driver’s seat.
Operating conditions
The ENGINE START/STOP button is in the ON position.
WARNING
If the steering wheel becomes uncomfortably hot, switch the heater off. Even at low temperatures, prolonged use may cause burns.
CAUTION
Do not fit a steering wheel grip cover. It may interfere with the steering wheel heater.
Clean the heated steering wheel without organic solvents such as paint thinner, benzene, alcohol or petrol. These products can damage the steering wheel surface.
A sharp object can damage the steering wheel surface and may also harm the heater components or steering wheel grip sensor.
NOTE
The steering wheel heater switches off automatically about 30 minutes after it is turned on.
When a Driver Assistance system is active, the Kia Sportage grip sensor checks whether the driver is holding the steering wheel. If it detects that the wheel is not being held, the system displays a Hands-off warning.
For more information, refer to the Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) section.
NOTE
Follow these precautions to help the steering wheel sensor operate correctly:
Do not modify the steering wheel cover.
Do not attach accessories to the steering wheel rim.
Do not allow the steering wheel to come into contact with electronic devices such as laptops or tablets.
Do not allow the steering wheel to come into contact with metal or conductive objects such as tumblers or beverage cans.
Avoid exposing the steering wheel to excessive moisture, including from wet tissues, spilled water or steam washing.
If you wear gloves or fit accessories such as a steering wheel cover, steering wheel knob or other attachment, the sensor may not detect your hands even while you are holding the wheel.
