Opening and Closing the Manual Tailgate

Operation

1. Press the exterior handle switch to release the tailgate.

2. Lift the tailgate fully to open it.

3. Push the tailgate down to close it, then check that it is securely latched.

Operating Condition

• The tailgate is locked or unlocked using the key or the central door lock switch.

Emergency Tailgate Safety Release

Operation

1. Insert a long, flat object, such as a key, into the opening at the bottom of the tailgate.

2. Move the latch in the direction of the arrow to unlock the tailgate.

3. Push the tailgate open.

WARNING

• Know where the emergency tailgate release is located and how to use it in case you are accidentally trapped in the luggage compartment.

• Never allow anyone, including an animal, to occupy the Kia Sportage luggage compartment. It is extremely dangerous in a collision.

• Use the emergency release only when necessary and exercise extreme caution, particularly while the vehicle is moving.
