Kia Sportage: Interior careGeneral interior care
Keep perfume, cosmetic oils, sunscreen, hand sanitiser and air fresheners away from the Kia Sportage interior. These products can stain, discolour or otherwise damage interior surfaces. If any product spills or comes into contact with a surface, wipe it off promptly. If further cleaning is needed, use warm water with a mild, non-detergent cleaner, testing it first on an inconspicuous area. Choose a cleaner suitable for the material you are treating.
Caution
Do not let water or other liquids reach electrical or electronic components inside the vehicle, as moisture can damage them.
For leather surfaces such as the steering wheel and seats, use a neutral detergent or a solution with a low alcohol content. Strong alcohol-based cleaners and acidic or alkaline detergents can fade the leather or damage its surface.
Caring for leather seats (if equipped)
Vacuum the seats regularly to remove dust and grit. These particles can abrade the leather over time, so removing them helps preserve the surface and its condition.
Wipe the leather seat covers regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
A suitable leather protectant can help reduce wear and preserve the leather’s colour. Follow the product instructions and consult a specialist if you are unsure how to apply a leather coating or protectant.
Light-coloured leather, including beige and cream beige, shows dirt readily. Clean these seats regularly to maintain their appearance.
Avoid wiping leather with a wet cloth, as this may cause the surface to crack.
Cleaning leather surfaces (if equipped)
Remove spills and other contaminants promptly. If they remain on the leather, they may cause staining, fading or surface damage. Use the method below that matches the type of stain.
Cosmetic products, such as sunscreen or foundation
Apply a leather cleaner or cleansing cream to a cloth and gently wipe the affected area. Remove the cleaner with a damp cloth, then dry the surface with a clean, dry cloth.
Beverages, such as coffee or soft drinks
Apply a small amount of neutral detergent and wipe gently until the spill no longer transfers or spreads.
Oil
Blot the oil promptly with an absorbent cloth, then treat the area with a stain remover made specifically for leather.
Chewing gum
Cool the gum with ice until it hardens, then remove it gradually without scraping the leather.
Precautions for fabric seat covers (if equipped)
Vacuum the fabric seats regularly, taking the fabric’s characteristics into account. For heavier soiling, including beverage stains, use a suitable interior upholstery cleaner. To avoid damaging the seat covers, wipe along the seams using broad strokes and moderate pressure with a soft sponge or microfiber cloth.
Clothing with hook-and-loop fasteners and sharp objects can snag or scratch the seat fabric. Keep them from rubbing against the seat surface.
Cleaning upholstery and interior trim
Interior surfaces
Remove dust and loose dirt with a soft brush or vacuum cleaner. If additional cleaning is needed, use warm water with a mild, non-detergent cleaner. Test the cleaner on a hidden area first to check that it is suitable for the surface.
Fabric
Use a soft brush or vacuum cleaner to remove dust and loose dirt from fabric. Clean it with a mild soap solution intended for upholstery or carpets. Treat fresh stains immediately with a fabric spot cleaner. Delaying treatment can allow a stain to set and alter the fabric’s colour. Improper care may also reduce the material’s fire-resistant properties.
Caution
Using cleaners or methods other than those recommended for the fabric may affect its appearance and fire-resistant properties.
Cleaning seat belt webbing
Clean the lap and shoulder belt webbing with a mild soap solution suitable for upholstery or carpet, following the product instructions. Do not bleach or dye the webbing, as these treatments can weaken it.
Cleaning interior window glass
If the inside of a Kia Sportage window becomes hazy with an oily, greasy or waxy film, clean it with a glass cleaner and follow the directions on the product container.
Caution
Do not scrape or scratch the inside surface of the rear window. Doing so can damage the rear-window defroster grid.
