Kia Sportage: Wireless smartphone charging system: (if equipped)![]() |
|
Operation
Place one Qi-compatible smartphone in the centre of the charging pad.
The indicator turns orange when charging begins and green when charging is complete.
You can switch the wireless charging function on or off in the Settings menu.
Operating conditions
The system is designed to charge one Qi-compatible smartphone at a time.
TIP
If charging does not start, reposition the phone gently on the pad until the indicator turns orange. Depending on the phone, the indicator may not turn green even when charging is complete.
If a problem is detected, the orange indicator flashes for about 10 seconds and then switches off. Remove the phone and place it on the pad again, then check its charging status.
If the smartphone remains on the charging pad after the Kia Sportage is switched off and a front door is opened, a warning message appears on the instrument cluster.
WARNING
Do not place metal items, such as coins, between the charging pad and the smartphone. They can interrupt charging and may become hot.
CAUTION
If the temperature inside the wireless charging system rises above its operating limit, charging stops. It resumes after the temperature falls below that limit.
If a metal object is between the smartphone and charging pad, remove the phone immediately. Wait for the object to cool completely before removing it.
A thick or heavy phone case may prevent the wireless charger from working correctly.
Charging pauses while the vehicle uses the wireless smart key search function to avoid radio-wave interference.
Charging stops if the smart key is taken outside the vehicle while the ignition is in ON.
On vehicles equipped with a smart key, charging stops when any door is opened.
Charging stops when the vehicle is switched off.
Charging may not work if the smartphone is not in full contact with the pad.
Magnetic items, including credit cards, phone cards, bankbooks and transport tickets, may be damaged during wireless charging. Keep them away from the charging pad.
Position the smartphone in the centre of the pad for the most reliable charging. A phone placed near the edge may not charge and may become excessively hot if charging does occur.
Smartphones without built-in wireless charging need a suitable charging accessory to use the system.
Some phones may display a weak-current message because of their own design or charging characteristics. This message does not necessarily indicate a fault with the vehicle’s wireless charger.
Some phones may continue to show a yellow charging indicator after reaching full charge. This is a phone-specific behaviour and does not indicate a wireless charging system malfunction.
A brief sound may occur when a phone without wireless charging or a metal object is placed on the pad. The sound is produced as the vehicle checks whether the item is compatible and does not affect the vehicle or phone.
The wireless charger may not support certain phones that have not been verified for the Qi specification (![]()
Some phones have built-in protection that can reduce charging speed or stop charging.
NOTE
Some phones may not display a warning when left on the wireless charging pad after the vehicle is switched off. This depends on the phone and does not indicate a fault with the vehicle’s charging system.
A phone normally becomes warm while charging. Apps such as Android Auto or Apple CarPlay may increase its temperature more quickly, which can slow or pause charging if the phone overheats. Remove the phone from the pad and let it cool.
An internal fan helps prevent the wireless charging system from overheating. Fan noise during charging is normal.
TIP
Some smartphones reduce or stop wireless charging because of their own protection settings and manufacturer specifications. Check the phone manufacturer’s wireless charging documentation for its maximum supported charging speed.
