Kia Sportage: Basic functionForward Collision-Avoidance Assist uses a staged response when it detects a potential collision. Depending on the situation, the Kia Sportage may provide a warning, assist with emergency braking, and then bring the vehicle to a stop before ending brake control.

Collision warning
![]() |
A: Collision warning |
If a collision risk is detected, the Forward Safety warning light flashes
and the system may display a
warning message, sound an alert and vibrate the steering wheel, if equipped.
The collision warning function operates within the following vehicle-speed ranges, depending on the detected target:
Vehicle or powered two-wheeler: 10–200 km/h (6–124 mph)
Pedestrian or cyclist: 10–85 km/h (6–53 mph)
Emergency braking

A: Emergency braking |
During an emergency braking response, the Forward Safety warning light flashes
. The system may also
display a warning message, sound an alert and vibrate the steering wheel, if equipped. Brake assistance is applied to
help avoid or reduce the severity of a collision with a vehicle, pedestrian, cyclist or powered two-wheeler.
Vehicle or powered two-wheeler:
|
Moving target |
Stationary target |
|
|---|---|---|
|
Lower braking force |
10–200 km/h (6–124 mph) |
|
|
Higher braking force |
10–130 km/h (6–80 mph) |
10–85 km/h (6–53 mph) |
* If Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist determines that a collision cannot be avoided by changing lanes because of surrounding traffic conditions, it may provide a warning and braking assistance earlier. If equipped, the system may operate at approximately 10–100 km/h (6–62 mph) when the detected target is stationary.
Pedestrian or cyclist: 10–65 km/h (6–40 mph)
CAUTION
The operating range may be reduced by traffic conditions ahead or by the area around the vehicle.
At night, the system may be less effective at recognising powered two-wheelers. Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist may therefore be temporarily limited or may not operate.

A: Drive carefully |
If emergency braking brings the Kia Sportage to a stop, a warning message appears on the instrument cluster.
For safety, press the brake pedal immediately and check the area around the vehicle before proceeding.
Brake control ends approximately two seconds after the vehicle has been brought to a stop by emergency braking.
NOTE
You can silence the warning sound used during collision warnings and emergency braking by pressing the hazard warning flasher switch.
