Kia Sportage: Distributing the Sealant. Checking Tyre Inflation Pressure
Distributing the Sealant
Procedure
- Drive immediately for approximately 7–10 km (4–6 miles), or about 10 minutes, to spread the sealant evenly inside
the tyre.
WARNING
- Do not leave the Kia Sportage running for a long time in a poorly ventilated area. Exhaust gases contain carbon
monoxide, which can cause poisoning or suffocation.
- If tyre pressure is below 26 psi (180 kPa), do not drive the vehicle. Driving in this condition may cause an
accident.
CAUTION
- Secure the sealant filling hose firmly to the tyre valve. If it is not properly attached, sealant may flow
backwards and clog the hose.
- Do not exceed 80 km/h (50 mph). If possible, maintain a speed of at least 20 km/h (12 mph). If you notice unusual
vibration, a change in ride quality, or unexpected noise, slow down and continue cautiously only until you can
safely leave the road. Call roadside assistance or arrange towing. Sealant may stain the wheel; have the stained
wheel and vehicle inspected by a qualified workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or service
partner.
- Do not connect a Tyre Mobility Kit from another vehicle to the Kia Sportage power outlet or battery terminal. A
difference between the vehicle’s power supply and the kit’s requirements may cause a fire or damage the vehicle’s
electrical circuit or the kit.
Checking Tyre Inflation Pressure
Procedure
- After driving approximately 7–10 km (4–6 miles), or about 10 minutes, stop the Kia Sportage in a safe, level
place.
-
Connect the filling hose directly to the tyre valve.
-
Plug in the power connector.
-
Adjust the tyre pressure to the specified value.
- To increase pressure, switch on the compressor. Switch it off briefly to check the current pressure.
- To reduce pressure, turn the compressor valve.
WARNING
- Do not run the compressor for more than 10 minutes. Longer operation may cause it to overheat and become damaged.
- Inflate the tyre to the correct pressure specified in “Tyres and Wheels.” If the proper pressure cannot be
reached, do not continue driving. Call roadside assistance or arrange towing.
CAUTION
- If the tyre does not maintain pressure, drive the vehicle again as described in “Distributing the Sealant,” then
repeat the pressure-checking procedure from the first step.
- The Tyre Mobility Kit may not be effective for tyre damage larger than approximately 4 mm (0.16 in.).
- If the kit cannot make the tyre safe for road use, contact a qualified workshop.
NOTE
When refitting the repaired or replacement tyre and wheel to the Kia Sportage, tighten the wheel lug nuts to 11–13
kgf·m (79–94 lbf·ft).
