The driver’s seat belt is unfastened, or the bonnet, driver’s door or tailgate is open.

EPB malfunction indicator
|
The EPB may have a fault if its malfunction indicator stays on, illuminates while driving, or fails to illuminate when the vehicle is in the ON position.
Arrange an inspection as soon as possible at a professional workshop. Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
NOTE
The EPB warning light may illuminate if the EPB switch is operated abnormally. Switch off the engine and restart it after a few minutes. The warning light may then go out and the switch may operate normally. If the warning light remains on, have the system inspected by a professional workshop. Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
If the parking brake warning light does not illuminate, or blinks when you pull up the EPB switch, the EPB has not been applied.
If the parking brake warning light blinks while the EPB warning light is on, press the EPB switch down and then pull it up. Return the switch to its original position once more, then pull it up again. If the EPB warning remains on, have the system inspected by a professional workshop. Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
Emergency braking with the EPB switch
To apply the emergency brake, pull the EPB switch up and hold it.
WARNING
Do not operate the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) while the Kia Sportage is moving unless there is an emergency. Applying the EPB at normal driving speeds can cause a sudden loss of control. If you must use it to stop the vehicle, apply it with great caution.
NOTE
During emergency braking with the EPB, the parking brake warning light illuminates to show that the system is operating.
If the EPB does not release correctly
Transport the vehicle on a flatbed tow truck to a professional workshop for inspection. Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
