Kia Sportage: Seat beltsSeat belts are designed to restrain the body across its stronger, bony areas. Wear the belt low across the front of the pelvis, and position the shoulder section across the chest and shoulder.
WARNING
Use a seat belt whenever the Kia Sportage is moving. Seat belts are an essential part of the vehicle's restraint system and provide the greatest protection when worn correctly.
Seat belts provide their best protection when the seatbacks are upright.
Children aged 13 and younger must always be properly restrained in a rear seat. Never place a child in the front passenger seat. If a child over 13 must ride in the front seat, ensure the belt is fastened correctly and move the seat as far back as possible.
Never place the shoulder belt under your arm or behind your back. Incorrect belt positioning can cause serious injuries in a collision. The shoulder section should lie across the middle of the shoulder and over the collarbone.
Do not wear a seat belt over fragile objects. A sudden stop or impact can damage the object.
Wear the belt flat, without twists. A twisted belt cannot restrain you as effectively and may cut into your body in a collision. Check that the webbing lies straight across your body.
Take care not to damage the belt webbing or its hardware. Replace the belt if any part of the webbing or hardware is damaged.
Seat belts are designed to lie across the body's bony structure: low across the pelvis and, where applicable, across the chest and shoulders. Never position the lap section across the abdomen. Adjust the belt as snugly as comfort allows; a loose belt offers considerably less protection. Keep the webbing free from polishes, oils, chemicals and especially battery acid. Clean it with mild soap and water. Replace a belt if its webbing becomes frayed, contaminated or damaged. After a severe impact, replace the complete belt assembly even if no damage is visible. Do not wear a twisted belt, and never use one belt assembly for more than one occupant. It is dangerous to place a belt around a child being carried on an occupant's lap.
Do not modify or add anything that could prevent the belt's adjustment devices from removing slack or stop the belt assembly from being adjusted to fit correctly.
Fasten each seat belt into its own buckle. Do not insert the latch plate into a buckle belonging to another seat; the belt may not protect you properly.
Do not unfasten a seat belt or repeatedly fasten and unfasten it while driving. This can distract you or affect vehicle control, potentially causing a collision, serious injury, death or property damage.
When fastening a seat belt, check that it does not pass over a hard or easily breakable object.
Check that the buckle is clear of obstructions so the seat belt can latch securely.
