For guidance on caring for the front view camera and front radar sensors, see the precautions in the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) (Sensor Fusion) section.
Emergency Stop is ready to operate when both Smart Cruise Control and Lane Following Assist are active.
If the hands-off warning continues and the system determines that the driver is unresponsive, Emergency Stop issues a preliminary alert. A warning message appears on the instrument cluster, an audible warning sounds and, if equipped, the steering wheel vibrates.
|
A: Drive carefully |
If the driver remains unresponsive after the preliminary alert, Emergency Stop can control the steering wheel and brakes to stop the Kia Sportage within its lane. While the system is active, it alerts the driver with a message, an audible warning, flashing hazard warning lights and, if equipped, steering wheel vibration.
|
A: Take control of the vehicle immediately. The vehicle is stopping. |
The preliminary warning and Emergency Stop control end if any of the following occurs:
The driver takes control of the steering wheel.
Smart Cruise Control is temporarily paused or switched off.
Lane Following Assist is switched off.
NOTE
While Emergency Stop is active, Smart Cruise Control’s following-distance setting changes to Distance 4. Once Emergency Stop is deactivated, the previous distance setting is restored.
Emergency Stop is also ready to operate when Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control and Lane Following Assist are active together, or when Highway Driving Assist is active.
For further information, see the sections on Smart Cruise Control (SCC), Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), Lane Following Assist (LFA) and Highway Driving Assist (HDA).
After Emergency Stop brings the vehicle to a halt, a warning message appears on the instrument cluster, an audible warning sounds and the hazard warning lights flash.
Once the Kia Sportage has stopped, the following actions take place:
The doors are unlocked.
An SOS call is made, if equipped.
The EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) is applied.
If the system determines that the driver has responded, Emergency Stop is deactivated when any of the following conditions is met:
The driver takes control of the steering wheel.
The driver presses and holds the accelerator pedal firmly.
The driver presses the brake pedal firmly.
The driver presses the Lane Driving Assist button.
The driver presses the Driving Assist button.
After the vehicle has stopped, the driver presses the hazard warning flasher button.
A front door is opened.
The driver cancels the SOS call, if equipped.
NOTE
After the vehicle has stopped and Emergency Stop has been deactivated, the vehicle must be restarted before Lane Following Assist or Highway Driving Assist can be used again.
|
A: Check Emergency Stopping function. |
If Emergency Stop is not operating correctly, a warning message appears on the instrument cluster and the Master
warning light
illuminates. If this
happens, have the system inspected by a qualified workshop. Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or
service partner.
NOTE
The message can also be viewed in the service messages within the instrument cluster’s utility information display.
Emergency Stop is subject to the limitations of the systems it relies on. For more information, see the limitations of Smart Cruise Control (SCC) and Lane Following Assist (LFA).
