Kia Sportage: Evasive Steering Assist function: (if equipped)Evasive Steering Assist can provide steering assistance when the Kia Sportage detects a potential collision and the driver steers to avoid it. Depending on the situation, the system may issue warnings and assist with an evasive manoeuvre.

The system may alert the driver with a flashing Emergency Steering warning light
, an instrument-cluster
message, an audible warning and steering-wheel vibration, if equipped.
If the Kia Sportage detects a collision risk involving a vehicle, pedestrian, cyclist or powered two-wheeler ahead, steering assistance may help the driver avoid the collision when the driver steers to take evasive action.
Driver steering assistance operates when your vehicle is travelling at approximately 40–85 km/h (25–53 mph).

A: Emergency steering |
If the system detects a collision risk involving a pedestrian, cyclist or powered two-wheeler ahead, it may alert the
driver with a flashing Emergency Steering warning light
, an
instrument-cluster message, an audible warning and steering-wheel vibration, if equipped. When the vehicle is
travelling above the emergency braking speed range, steering assistance may help the driver avoid the collision if the
driver steers to evade the hazard.
Evasive steering assistance operates when your vehicle is travelling at approximately 65–75 km/h (40–47 mph).
The recognised pedestrian or cyclist must be moving in the same direction as your vehicle or in the opposite direction, and there must be sufficient space for an evasive manoeuvre. The function may not operate for pedestrians or cyclists moving across the vehicle’s path.
CAUTION
The steering wheel may turn automatically while emergency steering assistance is active.
Emergency steering assistance cancels automatically when the risk factors are no longer present. The driver must steer the vehicle if necessary.
The function may not operate, or may stop operating, if you hold the steering wheel firmly or steer in the opposite direction.
If steering assistance is helping you avoid a vehicle, pedestrian or cyclist, Evasive Steering Assist cancels when the system anticipates a collision with another object, vehicle, powered two-wheeler, pedestrian or cyclist.
The function may not operate if there is not enough space in the driving lane to steer around the collision risk.
At night, the system may be less effective at recognising powered two-wheelers. Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist may therefore be temporarily limited or may not operate.
NOTE
For details about warning messages, refer to “Collision Warning.”
WARNING
For safety, change the settings only after parking the Kia Sportage in a safe location.
Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist may not operate in every situation and cannot prevent every collision.
The driver remains responsible for controlling the vehicle. Do not rely solely on Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist. Maintain a safe braking distance and, when needed, press the brake pedal to reduce speed or stop.
Never deliberately activate Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist towards a person or object. Doing so could cause serious injury or death.
Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist may not operate if you press the brake pedal to avoid a collision.
Depending on road and driving conditions, the system may issue a warning late or may not warn you.
During system operation, the vehicle may stop suddenly. Occupants could be injured and unsecured items could shift. Always wear a seat belt and secure loose objects.
If another function displays a warning message or sounds an alert, the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist warning message or audible warning may not be provided.
Noise in the surrounding area may make the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist warning sound difficult to hear.
Depending on road conditions and the surrounding environment, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist may switch off, operate incorrectly, fail to operate or activate when not needed.
Even if Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist has a problem, the vehicle’s basic braking performance remains available.
During emergency braking, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist cancels brake control if the driver presses the accelerator pedal excessively or turns the steering wheel sharply.
CAUTION
Other vehicles and the movement of pedestrians, cyclists or powered two-wheelers ahead can affect the system’s operating speed or detection range. As a result, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist may be temporarily limited or disabled.
Forward collision-avoidance assistance operates only under specific conditions. The system assesses factors such as the movement and direction of an oncoming vehicle, powered two-wheeler or cyclist, their speed and the surrounding environment to determine the level of risk.
The function may be limited or disabled if your vehicle is travelling too fast or if there is a large speed difference between your vehicle and an oncoming powered two-wheeler or cyclist.
If the system anticipates a collision with a nearby vehicle, Lane-Change Oncoming, Lane-Change Side and Evasive Steering Assist provide a warning only.
NOTE
If a collision appears imminent and the driver does not brake firmly enough, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist may provide braking assistance.
The appearance and colours of the illustrations may vary according to the instrument-cluster specification or selected theme.
