A: Collision warning
The system may alert the driver with a flashing Emergency Steering warning light
, an
instrument-cluster message, an audible warning and steering-wheel vibration, if equipped. When a vehicle approaching
from behind is detected in the right or left adjacent lane, the warning light in the corresponding outside rearview
mirror illuminates.
Collision warning operates when your vehicle is travelling at approximately 40–145 km/h (25–90 mph).

If emergency steering assistance is triggered, the Emergency Steering warning light flashes
. An instrument-cluster
message and audible warning may also alert the driver, and the steering wheel may vibrate, if equipped.
The warning light in the outside rearview mirror illuminates when the system detects a vehicle approaching from behind in either adjacent lane. Steering assistance may then help the driver avoid a collision.
Emergency steering operates under the following conditions:
Your vehicle speed: approximately 40–145 km/h (25–90 mph)
The lane-changing vehicle or powered two-wheeler is moving.
WARNING
Lane-Change Side does not operate if the lane-changing vehicle or powered two-wheeler is stationary.
The front-corner and rear-corner radars are designed around the standard width of ordinary roads. On narrow roads, they may warn about a vehicle or powered two-wheeler travelling in the next lane. On wide roads, they may not detect traffic in the adjacent lane or provide a warning.
The lateral approaching vehicle response function is deactivated in the following situations:
You have moved a certain distance into the adjacent lane.
You steer away from the direction in which a collision risk has been detected.
You turn the steering wheel rapidly.
You press the brake pedal.
Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist is activated.
After the lateral approaching vehicle response function activates or you change lanes, guide the Kia Sportage towards the centre of the lane. Continuing along the lane edge without returning to the centre deactivates this response function.
NOTE
If emergency steering could create the risk of another collision, the system provides a collision warning only.
Depending on the driver’s seating position, a collision warning may be issued when turning left in a left-hand-drive vehicle or turning right in a right-hand-drive vehicle.
