Kia Sportage: Fastening and releasing the seat beltThree-point seat belt with emergency locking retractor
|
Operation
Insert the metal tongue into the buckle until it locks.
To release the belt, press the button on the buckle.
TIP
Listen for an audible click when the tongue locks into the buckle. The click confirms that the latch has engaged.
|
|
WARNING
Position the lap belt low and snug across your hips, not around your waist. If it rides too high, the risk of injury in a collision may increase. Wear the shoulder section across your shoulder, with one arm above the belt and the other below it, as shown in the illustration. Never place the belt under the arm nearest the door.
Before fastening a rear seat belt, check that its tongue matches the correct buckle. Forcing a left or right seat belt into the centre buckle can result in an incorrect connection that will not protect you properly in a collision.
CAUTION
Do not fold down the left section of the rear seatback while the rear centre seat belt is fastened. Always unbuckle the centre belt first. Folding the seatback with the belt buckled may deform or damage the top of the seatback and the seat belt garnish, and could cause the seatback to remain locked in the folded position.
Rear centre seat belt
Fastening the rear centre seat belt
Pull the mini tongue out of the opening in the belt assembly cover (1), then slowly draw the seat belt out of the retractor.
|
Remove the tongue plate from its holder on the seat belt (2).
|
Insert the mini tongue (1) into the open end of the anchor connector (2) until you hear a click, confirming that it is locked. Check that the belt webbing is not twisted.
|
Pull the tongue plate (3) across your body and insert it into the open end of the buckle (4). Listen for a click to confirm that it has locked, and make sure the belt is not twisted.
|
WARNING
When using the rear centre seat belt in the Kia Sportage, make sure every tongue plate is connected to its matching buckle. If any tongue plate or buckle is left unfastened, the risk of injury in a collision increases.
Unfastening the rear centre seat belt
Press the release button on buckle (3), then remove tongue plate (3) from buckle (4).
|
To retract the rear centre seat belt, insert the tongue plate or another small, rigid object into the web release hole (2). Pull the belt webbing (1) upward and let it retract fully into the retractor.
|
Place the tongue plate in its holder (1), then insert the mini tongue into the opening in the belt assembly cover (2).
|
|
Adjusting the shoulder belt height
|
Operation
Pull the height adjuster upward (1) to raise the shoulder belt anchor.
Press and hold the height adjuster button (2), then move the adjuster downward (3) to lower it.
WARNING
After a collision, have the seat belt system inspected to confirm that it operates correctly. Replace any belt that is not functioning properly.
Check that the shoulder belt anchor is locked at the selected height. Never position the shoulder belt across your face or neck.
CAUTION
Do not force a left or right rear seat belt tongue into the centre buckle. Connect the rear centre seat belt to the centre buckle. An incorrectly fastened belt cannot provide proper protection.
When pulling out the belt to fasten it, draw the tongue slowly through the seat belt guide. This helps prevent the guide from coming away from the trim.
NOTE
If the belt does not pull smoothly from the retractor, pull it firmly out once and release it. You should then be able to draw the belt out smoothly.
