If you drive without fastening the seat belt at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or faster, the warning light flashes and a warning chime sounds for about 100 seconds.
If the seat belt is unfastened while driving:

Rear seat indicators: (1) left, (2) centre, (3) right.
Rear left and right seats
When the vehicle is switched on, the warning light illuminates for about 6 seconds. If the seat belt is not fastened, the light remains on until it is buckled. If no passenger is detected, the light comes on for about 6 seconds and then turns off.
If a rear left or right seat belt is unfastened while driving below approximately 20 km/h (12 mph), the warning light remains illuminated. At speeds above approximately 20 km/h (12 mph), the warning light flashes and a chime sounds for about 35 seconds. After the chime stops, the light remains on until the seat belt is fastened.
Rear centre seat
When the vehicle is switched on, the warning light illuminates for about 6 seconds. If the centre seat belt is not fastened, the light then remains on for about 70 seconds, whether or not a passenger is detected.
If the centre seat belt is unfastened while driving after it has been fastened, the warning light remains on for about 70 seconds when the vehicle is travelling below approximately 20 km/h (12 mph). Above approximately 20 km/h (12 mph), the light flashes and a warning chime sounds for about 35 seconds.
If the centre seat belt is unbuckled before the vehicle comes to a complete stop, an alarm sounds and the warning light flashes. This alert may continue for up to 35 seconds after you leave the vehicle. Wait until the Kia Sportage has stopped completely before unfastening the belt.
When a rear door is opened or closed while the vehicle is travelling below 10 km/h (6 mph), the rear seat belt reminder may be temporarily inactive.
In this condition, the seat belt warning light and chime will not operate, even if the vehicle speed subsequently exceeds approximately 20 km/h (12 mph).
WARNING
An incorrect seating position can affect how the front seat belt warning system operates. The driver should ensure that each passenger is seated correctly, following the instructions in this manual.
NOTE
The front passenger seat belt warning light may illuminate or flash for about 6 seconds even when the front passenger seat is unoccupied.
Luggage placed on the front passenger seat may activate the passenger seat belt warning.
