For the headrest to provide effective protection in a collision, position its centre level with the occupant's head. For most people, this is approximately level with the top of the eyes. Adjust the headrest as close to the head as possible. Avoid using a cushion that holds the body away from the seatback.

Never drive the Kia Sportage with a headrest removed or fitted backwards. A correctly adjusted headrest can help protect occupants from neck injuries in a collision.
Do not adjust the driver's headrest while the vehicle is moving.
After adjusting a headrest, check that it is locked in place so it can provide proper support.
Never allow anyone to travel in a seat with its headrest removed.
After reinstalling and adjusting a headrest, always confirm that it is securely locked in position.
CAUTION
When the rear seats are unoccupied, lower their headrests to the lowest position. A raised rear headrest can obstruct the driver's view through the rear of the vehicle.
If you move the seatback forward while the headrest and seat cushion are raised, the headrest may contact the sun visor or another part of the vehicle.
