Turning on Highway Driving Assist
Highway Driving Assist becomes available under the following conditions:
When driving on a supported road, press the Driving Assist button to activate Highway Driving Assist.
When entering the main carriageway of a highway or motorway while Smart Cruise Control is active, Highway Driving Assist will not switch on if Lane Following Assist is off.
Restarting after stopping
|
A: Use a switch or pedal to accelerate |
While Highway Driving Assist is operating, the Kia Sportage will stop if the vehicle ahead comes to a halt. If that
vehicle moves off within 30 seconds, your vehicle will also resume moving. If it remains stopped for longer than 30
seconds, a message appears on the instrument cluster. To move off, press the accelerator pedal or operate the (+), (−)
or
switch.
Hands-off warning
|
A: Keep your hands on the steering wheel |
If the driver’s hands are off the steering wheel for several seconds, a warning message appears and audible alerts are issued in stages:
First stage: A warning message appears.
Second stage: A warning message with a red steering-wheel symbol appears, accompanied by an audible alert.
If the driver continues to take their hands off the steering wheel, Emergency Stop may activate. See Emergency Stop (ES) for details.
After Emergency Stop has been released, restart the vehicle to use Highway Driving Assist again.
|
A: Highway Driving Assist deactivated |
If the driver still does not hold the steering wheel after the hands-off warning, another message appears and Highway Driving Assist is cancelled automatically.
CAUTION
If the driver continues to take their hands off the steering wheel, Emergency Stop may activate, if equipped. See Emergency Stop (ES) for details.
NOTE
After an Emergency Stop, restart the vehicle to reactivate Highway Driving Assist (HDA).
Driving speed limit
|
A: Driver’s hands not detected. Driving speed will be limited |
If Highway Driving Assist is cancelled following a hands-off warning, the vehicle’s speed will be limited.
While the Driving Speed Limit function is active, a warning message appears on the instrument cluster and an audible warning sounds continuously.
Driving to one side within the lane: (if equipped)
|
When the Kia Sportage is travelling above 60 km/h (40 mph), this function can steer the vehicle away from a nearby vehicle travelling close alongside. If vehicles are travelling close on both sides, the system will not steer towards either side of the lane.
Highway Driving Assist standby
If Smart Cruise Control is temporarily cancelled while Highway Driving Assist is active, Highway Driving Assist enters standby mode. Lane Following Assist can continue to operate normally during this time.
NOTE
Driving Speed Limit helps keep the vehicle below 60 km/h (40 mph). The vehicle may slow down to match traffic ahead. Once it has slowed, it will not accelerate automatically.
Driving Speed Limit is cancelled in any of the following situations:
The driver takes hold of the steering wheel again.
The driver activates Lane Following Assist by pressing the Lane Driving Assist button
.
The driver operates the (+), (−) or
switch, presses
the
button, or presses
the accelerator or brake pedal.
