Kia Sportage: Highway Driving Assist malfunction and limitations
|
A: Check Driver Assistance system. |
If Highway Driving Assist detects a fault, a warning message appears and the warning light
illuminates on the Kia Sportage
instrument cluster.
Have the system inspected by a qualified workshop. Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
WARNING
The driver remains responsible for controlling the vehicle and driving safely.
Keep your hands on the steering wheel whenever the vehicle is moving.
Highway Driving Assist is a driver assistance feature, not a fully autonomous driving system. Continue to assess road conditions and take control whenever needed to drive safely.
Keep your attention on the road and obey traffic laws. The vehicle manufacturer is not responsible for traffic violations or accidents caused by the driver.
Highway Driving Assist cannot recognise every traffic situation or detect every possible collision. Depending on the system’s limitations, it may not identify vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, pedestrians or other objects and structures, including guardrails and tollgates, that could present a hazard.
Highway Driving Assist switches off automatically in the following situations:
The vehicle is travelling on a road where the system is unavailable, such as a rest area, intersection or junction.
The navigation system is not operating correctly, including while it is being updated or restarted.
Road conditions, navigation information and the surrounding environment may cause Highway Driving Assist to activate unexpectedly or switch off.
Lane Following Assist may be temporarily unavailable if the front view camera cannot detect lane markings clearly or a hands-off warning is active.
In a noisy environment, you may not hear the Highway Driving Assist warning sound.
When taking a curve above a certain speed, the Kia Sportage may move towards one side of the lane or leave it.
For safety, switch off Highway Driving Assist when towing a trailer or another vehicle.
The hands-off warning may appear sooner or later depending on how you hold the steering wheel and on road conditions. Keep your hands on the wheel while driving.
Read the owner’s manual before using Highway Driving Assist so you understand how the system works and its limitations.
Highway Driving Assist is unavailable while the vehicle starts or while the detecting sensors or navigation system are initialising.
NOTE
You can view the related information in the service messages in the instrument cluster’s utility information display.
Highway Driving Assist and Highway Lane Change Assist may not work as intended, or may be unavailable, in the following situations:
The navigation map has not been updated and does not match the road layout.
Real-time GPS data or map errors cause the navigation information to differ from the road.
The infotainment system is overloaded by several simultaneous tasks, such as route searches and voice recognition.
GPS reception is blocked, for example inside a tunnel.
The vehicle leaves the planned route, the destination is changed and the navigation recalculates the route, a route change is made in response to real-time traffic information, or guidance to the destination is cancelled.
The vehicle enters a service station or rest area.
Android Auto or Apple CarPlay is in use.
The navigation system cannot determine the vehicle’s current position. This may occur on elevated roads, including overpasses, or where nearby roads run parallel to one another.
The system cannot clearly recognise white single-dashed lane markings or road boundaries.
One or more lanes are temporarily restricted.
The road has no physical divider, such as a central median.
The intended lane is a bus lane or a variable-use lane.
A trailer, carrier or other equipment is attached to the vehicle.
NOTE
For further information about the front view camera, front radar, front corner radar and rear corner radar, see Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) (Sensor Fusion).
