Kia Sportage: Immobiliser SystemThe immobiliser system helps reduce the risk of unauthorised use of the Kia Sportage.
The system uses a small transponder in the ignition key and electronic devices in the vehicle. It checks the key and verifies whether it is authorised for that vehicle.
If the key is valid, the engine can start. If the key is not valid, the engine will not start.
Operation
To deactivate the immobiliser system, insert the mechanical key into the ignition switch and turn it to the ON position.
To activate the immobiliser system, turn the mechanical key to the OFF position.
The immobiliser system activates automatically. The vehicle will not start without a valid remote key registered to it.
Operation
To deactivate the immobiliser, press the ENGINE START/STOP button to switch the vehicle to the ON position.
To activate the immobiliser, press the ENGINE START/STOP button to switch the vehicle to the OFF position.
The immobiliser activates automatically. The Kia Sportage will not start unless it detects a valid smart key for that vehicle.
WARNING
To help prevent vehicle theft, do not leave spare keys inside the Kia Sportage. Your immobiliser password is unique to you and should be kept confidential. Do not store it in the vehicle.
CAUTION
Keep metal accessories away from the ignition switch and ENGINE START/STOP button. Metal objects may interfere with the transponder signal and prevent the vehicle from starting.
The transponder in the key is an essential part of the immobiliser system. Although it is designed for long-term use, protect it from moisture and static electricity, and handle it carefully. Exposure to these conditions or rough handling may cause the immobiliser system to malfunction.
Do not change, alter or adjust the immobiliser system. Changes may cause a malfunction. If the system needs attention, have it serviced by a professional workshop. Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
Malfunctions caused by improper alterations, adjustments or modifications to the immobiliser system are not covered by the vehicle manufacturer’s warranty.
Do not attempt to modify the system or install additional devices. Doing so may cause electrical problems that prevent the Kia Sportage from operating.
NOTE
When starting the vehicle, keep other immobiliser keys separate from the key you are using. If keys are close together, the engine may fail to start or may stop shortly after starting.
If you need another key or have lost your keys, Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
