Kia Sportage: Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA): (if equipped)Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist monitors the Kia Sportage’s blind-spot areas for approaching vehicles. If it detects a potential collision, the system can alert you with a warning light and audible warning. When you are moving forward out of a parking space and a collision risk is detected, BCA may also apply the brakes to help avoid an impact.

BCA helps detect vehicles in the blind spot and alerts the driver to their presence. The system is an additional aid; check your surroundings and mirrors before changing lanes.
CAUTION
The detection range can vary with your vehicle’s speed. A vehicle may be present in the blind spot without triggering a warning if you pass it at high speed.

BCA can also detect a vehicle approaching rapidly from the blind-spot area and alert the driver. The timing of the warning may vary according to the approaching vehicle’s speed.
CAUTION
Warning timing depends on how quickly the other vehicle is approaching, so the alert may be given earlier or later as the relative speed changes.

When the Kia Sportage is moving forward out of a parking space, BCA may detect an approaching vehicle in the blind spot and apply the brakes if it determines that a collision is likely.
Detecting sensors
Refer to the “Detecting sensor(s)” section for the applicable sensors and their locations.
CAUTION
Do not disassemble or damage the detecting sensor assembly.
If a sensor or the area around it has been damaged or struck, BCA may not work correctly even if no warning appears on the instrument cluster. Have the system inspected by a professional workshop. Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
If a detecting sensor has been replaced or repaired, have the vehicle inspected by a professional workshop. Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
The genuine Kia rear bumper, where the rear corner radar sensors are mounted, is designed to meet the required quality and performance standards. Applying paint or making unauthorised changes to the bumper may prevent BCA from working correctly. For repairs or replacement, use Kia Genuine Parts or parts of an equivalent standard with proven quality and performance.
BCA may not work correctly if the bumper has been replaced, or if the area around a rear corner radar has been damaged or repainted.
Do not fit a licence plate frame or place objects such as stickers, film or a bumper guard near a rear corner radar.
A trailer, carrier or similar equipment may affect rear corner radar performance or prevent BCA from operating.
