Automatic Accident Reporting

  2. Connection to the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP)

  3. Emergency services response

Emergency services responding after a Kia Sportage eCall is received

If the Kia Sportage is involved in a traffic accident, the Pan-European eCall device automatically calls a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) to request an appropriate emergency response.

When the system detects a traffic accident, it automatically sends accident data to the PSAP so the operator can arrange suitable emergency services and support.

Once connected, the emergency call cannot be ended by pressing the SOS button. The Pan-European eCall connection remains active until the emergency operator who answered the call disconnects it.

A minor traffic accident may not trigger an automatic eCall. If emergency assistance is needed, you can make a call manually by pressing the SOS button.

CAUTION

The system cannot operate if mobile network coverage or GPS and Galileo signals are unavailable.

The driver or a passenger can press the SOS button to place an emergency call to the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) and request the appropriate emergency services.

You can cancel a call made through the Pan-European eCall system by pressing the SOS button again within three seconds, but only before the call connects.

When you initiate an eCall manually, the Pan-European eCall system automatically sends accident-related data to the PSAP operator during the call. This data transmission begins when you press the SOS button to request emergency assistance.

If the SOS button is pressed accidentally, cancel the call by pressing it again within three seconds and before the connection is established. Once connected, the call cannot be cancelled using the button.

To make a manual emergency call after a road accident or another accident, follow these steps:

  1. Stop the Kia Sportage in accordance with traffic rules, choosing a position that protects you and other road users.
  2. Press the SOS button. The system registers the device through the mobile network and sends a limited set of vehicle and location data, as defined by the service’s technical requirements.

The system then connects you directly with a Pan-European eCall operator, who can establish why you are calling and what has happened.

  3. After determining the reason for the emergency call, the PSAP operator arranges the appropriate emergency services and ends the call.

If the emergency call is not made according to this procedure, it may be treated as an erroneous call.

WARNING

NOTE

Mobile network operators are phasing out 2G and 3G services in many countries. Decisions to discontinue either network technology are made by the operators and are outside Kia’s control.

If network operators discontinue 2G or 3G service, automatic and manual eCall may no longer be available when an accident occurs or emergency assistance is required.
