The sunroof operates when the ignition switch or ENGINE START/STOP button is in the ON or START position.

For approximately three minutes after the ignition switch or ENGINE START/STOP button is moved to ACC or LOCK/OFF, the sunroof may still operate. It cannot be operated during this period if a front door is open.

WARNING

NOTE

Do not operate the sunroof when roof bars are installed or luggage is being carried on the roof.

Power Sunshade

The power sunshade helps block direct sunlight entering through the sunroof glass.

To stop the sunshade at any point, push the sunroof switch in any direction.

NOTE

Do not pull or push the power sunshade by hand. This may damage it or cause it to malfunction.

TIP

Small wrinkles in the power sunshade may occur because of the material and are normal.

Automatic reversal

If the power sunshade or sunroof glass detects an obstacle while closing automatically, it will reverse direction and then stop at a set position. This feature helps protect the Kia Sportage interior and its occupants, but it may not detect a thin or soft object caught between the moving panel and the sunroof frame.

WARNING

NOTE

WARNING

While driving, do not extend your head, arms or any other body parts through the sunroof, and do not allow objects to protrude through it. A sudden stop could result in injury or damage.

Resetting the sunroof

The sunroof on your Kia Sportage may need to be reset in certain situations, including:

Sunroof resetting procedure

  1. Kia recommends carrying out the reset with the engine running. Start the vehicle and select P (Park).

  2. Check that the power sunshade and sunroof glass are fully closed. If either is open, press the switch forward until both are completely closed.

  3. Release the switch once the power sunshade and sunroof glass are fully closed.

  4. Press the switch forward until the power sunshade and sunroof glass move slightly, then release it.

  5. Press and hold the sunroof switch forward again. Keep holding it while the power sunshade and sunroof glass slide open and then close; release the switch only after the movement is complete.

If you release the switch before the operation finishes, restart the procedure from step 2.

TIP

If the sunroof is not reset after the vehicle battery is disconnected or discharged, or after the sunroof fuse blows, it may not operate normally.

Sunroof open warning

If you switch off the engine while the sunroof is not fully closed, a warning chime will sound for several seconds and a sunroof-open message will appear on the instrument cluster display.

Before leaving the Kia Sportage, check that the sunroof is fully closed.

CAUTION

Make sure the sunroof is completely closed whenever you leave the vehicle. Rain or snow could enter and wet the interior if it is left open. An open sunroof may also make the unattended vehicle more vulnerable to theft.
