A: Check Driver Assistance system |
If Safe Exit Warning (SEW) detects a system fault, a warning message appears on the instrument cluster and the Master Warning Light illuminates for a short time.

Arrange for SEW to be inspected by a qualified workshop. Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.

A: Check outside rearview mirror warning icon |
If a warning indicator in an outside rearview mirror is not working correctly, a message appears on the instrument cluster for a short time and the Master Warning Light illuminates.

Have SEW inspected by a qualified workshop if this occurs. Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
Safe Exit Warning disabled

A: Driver Assistance system limited. Radar blocked. |
Snow, rain or other material covering the rear bumper around a rear corner radar or sensor can interfere with detection. A trailer, carrier or similar attachment may also affect sensor performance and temporarily limit or disable SEW.
While the system is limited, a warning message and the Master Warning Light appear on the instrument cluster. This message does not necessarily indicate a fault in Safe Exit Warning.
After removing the obstruction or attachment, restart the Kia Sportage. SEW should then operate normally if the obstruction was the cause.
If Safe Exit Warning still does not work correctly after the obstruction or attachment has been removed and the vehicle restarted, have the system inspected by a qualified workshop. Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
WARNING
Safe Exit Warning may not operate correctly even if no warning message appears on the instrument cluster.
Shortly after start-up, SEW may not operate correctly if there are no detectable objects in the area, such as in open terrain, or if a detecting sensor is covered by foreign material.
CAUTION
Switch Safe Exit Warning off before fitting or using a cargo rack or other equipment. Remove the equipment before switching the system back on.
Safe Exit Warning may not operate as intended, or may issue a warning unexpectedly, in the following situations:
A door is opened where trees or grass are overgrown.
A door is opened beside a wet road.
The approaching vehicle is travelling very fast or very slowly.
NOTE
For precautions concerning the rear corner radars, refer to the “Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA)” section.
WARNING
Strong electromagnetic waves may interfere with SEW and prevent it from operating correctly.
Safe Exit Warning may be unavailable for approximately three seconds after the Kia Sportage is restarted while the rear corner radars initialise.
If an obstruction or system fault remains, restarting the vehicle will not restore normal SEW operation.
