Kia Sportage: Seatback pocket
|
|
The Kia Sportage seatback pocket and USB charger are shown above. Follow these seat and cargo safety precautions whenever you adjust the seats or arrange items in the cabin.
WARNING
Keep loose items out of the driver's footwell. Objects near the pedals can obstruct their movement and interfere with braking or acceleration, potentially causing a collision.
When returning a seatback upright, hold it and guide it back slowly. Check that no one is close to the seat. An uncontrolled seatback can spring forward and injure someone.
Do not travel with a seatback reclined. In a collision, the occupant's hips may slide beneath the lap belt, placing strong pressure on the abdomen and causing serious or fatal internal injuries. The driver should remind passengers to keep their seatbacks upright while the Kia Sportage is moving.
Do not use a seat cushion that reduces friction between the seat and occupant. During a collision or sudden stop, the occupant may slide beneath the lap portion of the seat belt, preventing the belt from restraining the body correctly and possibly causing serious or fatal internal injuries.
Never adjust a seat while the vehicle is moving. Doing so can affect your control of the vehicle and may lead to a collision, serious injury, death or property damage.
Keep the seatback's normal position and movement unobstructed. Items pressed against a seatback can prevent it from locking properly, increasing the risk of serious or fatal injury during a sudden stop or collision.
Drive and ride with the seatback upright and the lap belt fitted low and snug across the hips. This seating position helps the seat belt protect you in a collision.
To reduce the risk of serious air bag injuries, sit as far from the steering wheel as you can while maintaining comfortable control of the vehicle. Kia recommends keeping your chest at least 250 mm (10 inches) from the steering wheel.
Make sure the rear seatback is securely latched. If it is not locked, passengers or cargo may be thrown forward during a sudden stop or collision, causing serious injury or death.
Place luggage and other cargo flat in the cargo area. Secure large or heavy items and any cargo that must be stacked. Never stack cargo above the seatbacks. Unsecured or improperly loaded items can cause serious injury or death in a sudden stop, collision or rollover.
Never let anyone ride in the cargo area or sit or lie on a folded seatback while the vehicle is moving. Every occupant must sit in a designated seat and wear a seat belt correctly.
After returning a seatback upright, push it forward and backward to confirm that it has latched securely.
Do not remove the carpet from the cargo area. Hot emission-control components beneath the floor can cause burns.
After adjusting a seat, check that it is locked by trying to move it forward and backward without operating the release lever. Unexpected movement of the driver's seat can affect vehicle control and cause a collision.
Do not adjust a seat while wearing a seat belt. Moving the seat cushion forward can place excessive pressure on the abdomen.
Keep hands and other objects clear of the seat mechanisms whenever a seat is moving to prevent them from becoming trapped.
Do not leave a cigarette lighter on the floor or seat. Seat movement could release gas from the lighter and start a fire.
Check for rear-seat passengers before adjusting a front seat, and take care not to move it into them.
Use care when retrieving small objects trapped beneath a seat or between a seat and the centre console. Sharp edges on the seat mechanism can cut or injure your hands.
Power seats can operate while the ignition is off. Never leave children unattended in the vehicle.
CAUTION
Power seats are moved by electric motors. Release the control when the adjustment is complete; prolonged or unnecessary operation can damage electrical components.
Power seat adjustment draws considerable electrical power. To avoid unnecessary strain on the vehicle's electrical system, limit seat adjustments while the engine is off.
Do not operate two or more power seat switches at the same time. Doing so may cause the seat motor or other electrical components to malfunction.
