Kia Sportage: Smart Cruise Control display and controlYou can check Smart Cruise Control (SCC) status in the Driving Assist view on the Kia Sportage instrument cluster. Refer to the “Instrument cluster” section for more information.
The display changes according to whether SCC is active, temporarily cancelled or responding to the traffic ahead.
![]() |
The cluster presents SCC information according to the current operating state.
When SCC is operating
Whether a vehicle is detected ahead and the selected following-distance level.
Whether a vehicle is detected ahead and the target distance to it.
The set speed.
When SCC is temporarily cancelled
Your vehicle, shown in grey.
The previous set speed, shown in grey.
Whether a vehicle is detected ahead, shown in grey, if equipped.
NOTE
The front vehicle’s position on the cluster represents the actual distance between your Kia Sportage and the vehicle ahead.
The target following distance can vary with vehicle speed and the selected distance level. At low speeds, a change in the actual gap may result in only a small change to the displayed target distance.
Objects shown around the vehicle on the instrument cluster may not match their actual position or appearance.
The appearance and colours of cluster graphics may vary with the instrument cluster specifications or selected theme.
Accelerating temporarily
|
To accelerate temporarily without changing the set speed while SCC is operating, press the accelerator pedal. While you do, the set speed, following-distance level and target distance flash on the instrument cluster.
If the accelerator pedal is not pressed firmly enough, the vehicle may slow down.
WARNING
Use care when accelerating temporarily. While the accelerator is pressed, SCC does not automatically control the vehicle’s speed or following distance, even if another vehicle is ahead.
Based on Driving Style: (if equipped)
|
When Based on Driving Style is active, the following-distance level and target distance selected in the instrument cluster appear in white. The cluster also shows the distance level and target distance calculated from the driver’s style.
Temporarily cancelling Smart Cruise Control
![]() |
A: SCC cancelled |
If SCC cancels automatically, a warning message appears on the instrument cluster and an audible alert sounds.
SCC cancels automatically in any of these situations:
Your vehicle speed exceeds 210 km/h (130 mph).
The vehicle remains stopped for a certain period.
The accelerator pedal is held down continuously for a certain period.
The conditions required for SCC operation are no longer met.
NOTE
If SCC cancels while the vehicle is stopped, the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) may apply.
WARNING
When SCC is cancelled, it no longer maintains the distance to the vehicle ahead. Watch the road and, if needed, press the brake pedal to reduce speed and restore a safe gap.
Smart Cruise Control conditions not met
|
A: SCC conditions not met |
If you press the Driving Assist button, operate the (+) or (−) switch, or press the resume switch (
) when SCC’s operating conditions are not met, a warning
message appears on the instrument cluster and an audible alert sounds.
In traffic
![]() |
A: Use switch or pedal to accelerate |
In stop-and-go traffic, the Kia Sportage stops when the vehicle ahead stops. If that vehicle moves off, your vehicle can move off as well.
If your vehicle remains stopped for a certain period, a message appears on the instrument cluster. Press the
accelerator pedal or operate the (+), (−) or resume switch (
) to start moving again.
Warning about road conditions ahead
![]() |
A: Watch for surrounding vehicles |
In certain situations, a warning message appears on the instrument cluster and an audible alert sounds to draw the driver’s attention to the road conditions ahead.
WARNING
Watch for vehicles or objects that may suddenly enter your path. If necessary, press the brake pedal to slow down and maintain a safe distance.
SCC does not replace attentive, safe driving. The driver remains responsible for checking the vehicle’s speed and its distance from traffic ahead.
SCC may not respond correctly to unexpected events or complex traffic situations. Stay alert to changing conditions and control the vehicle’s speed as needed.
Switch SCC off when you are not using it to avoid setting a speed unintentionally.
Do not open a door or leave the vehicle while SCC is operating, even when the vehicle is stopped.
Stay aware of the selected speed and following-distance setting.
Choose a safe following distance for the road and your speed. At high speeds, following too closely can result in a serious collision.
If the vehicle ahead moves out of view while SCC is maintaining the gap, your vehicle may accelerate suddenly toward the set speed. Be prepared for changing traffic conditions.
Your vehicle may slow down on an uphill slope and speed up on a downhill slope.
Stay alert for vehicles cutting in suddenly.
When towing a trailer or similar load, frequent gear changes and high engine speed may occur, which can reduce SCC performance. Drive with care.
Switch SCC off while your vehicle is being towed.
Strong electromagnetic waves may interfere with SCC and prevent it from operating correctly.
SCC may not detect an obstacle ahead. Look carefully at the road and be ready to respond to hazards.
Vehicles that change lanes frequently may delay SCC’s response or cause it to react to a vehicle in an adjacent lane. Drive attentively and be prepared to take control.
Continue to check your surroundings and drive safely even when no warning message or audible alert is given.
If another function displays a warning message or sounds an alert, the SCC warning message or sound may not be displayed or heard.
Noise in the surroundings may make Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist warning sounds difficult to hear.
The vehicle manufacturer is not responsible for traffic violations or accidents caused by the driver.
Always set a speed below the applicable speed limit in your country or region.
NOTE
SCC may be unavailable for a few seconds after the vehicle is restarted or while the front view camera or front radar initialises.
You may hear a sound when SCC applies the brakes.
