Kia Sportage: Forward Attention Warning operation
![]() |
|
Forward Attention Warning assesses whether the driver is watching the road using information such as how long the
driver looks away and how long the eyes remain closed. If the system determines that the driver is not focused, it
sounds an audible alert for approximately one second and displays the Forward Attention Warning indicator (
). The indicator remains on until
the conditions for clearing the warning are met.
If the system detects that the driver may have fallen asleep, it can issue a warning message and steering wheel vibration, as well as the audible alert and warning light.
Operating conditions
The driver’s gaze remains off the road continuously for three seconds while driving above 20 km/h (12 mph).
At a speed of 20 km/h (12 mph) or higher, glances away from the road total at least 10 seconds within a 30-second period.
The system may determine that the driver is asleep if the driver’s eyes remain closed for two seconds or longer while drowsiness is detected, or for more than three seconds while driving above 10 km/h (6 mph).
Conditions for switching off
The driver looks ahead continuously for more than one second.
The operating conditions for the warning are no longer present.
The vehicle is travelling below the warning activation speed.
Driver Drowsiness Attention Warning monitors the driver’s eyes while the vehicle is moving. If the driver’s eyes remain closed or frequently turn away from the road, the system can recommend a break to support safer driving in the Kia Sportage.
The Inattentive Warning Light (
) appears on the instrument cluster and an
audible warning sounds until the conditions for clearing the alert are met.
Operating conditions
The driver’s eyes remain closed or frequently look away from the road while driving above 10 km/h (6 mph).
Conditions for switching off
The driver’s gaze returns to the road.
NOTE
Even after the conditions for clearing the Driver Drowsiness Attention Warning have been met, the alert remains active for at least four seconds before switching off.
WARNING
If another system displays a warning message or sounds an alert at the same time, the Forward Attention Warning message or audible alert may not be shown or heard.
CAUTION
Driving style or patterns may cause Forward Attention Warning to issue an alert even when the driver is watching the road.
Forward Attention Warning is an assistance function and may not correctly determine whether the driver is distracted.
The driver remains responsible for safe driving and must keep their attention on the road.
TIP
Forward Attention Warning does not transmit recorded video outside the Kia Sportage or store the video.
The warning method for Forward Attention Warning cannot be changed.
