Kia Sportage: Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control limitationsNavigation-based Smart Cruise Control may not operate as intended in the situations listed below. For example, because the system relies on navigation guidance, it may slow the Kia Sportage if the route it predicts does not match the road the vehicle is actually following.
The navigation system is not functioning correctly.
Map information is not being transmitted because of a fault in the infotainment system.
The map does not match the road, for example because of an error in real-time GPS data or map information.
The navigation system is calculating or searching for a route while you are driving.
GPS signals are blocked, such as inside a tunnel.
The vehicle enters a service station or rest area.
Android Auto or Apple CarPlay is in use.
The navigation system cannot determine the vehicle’s current location. This can happen on elevated roads, including overpasses, or where nearby roads run parallel to one another.
The navigation system is being updated while you are driving.
The navigation system is restarting while you are driving.
The speed limit changes according to conditions along a section of road.
The vehicle is travelling through a roadworks area.
The vehicle is travelling on a controlled road.
Weather conditions are severe, such as during heavy rain or snowfall.
The vehicle is travelling on a sharply curved road.
|
|
If the navigation route follows a branch road but the vehicle is travelling on the main road, Highway Curve Zone Auto Slowdown may not activate until the system recognises that the vehicle is following the main road.
Once the vehicle’s actual route is recognised as the main road, Highway Curve Zone Auto Slowdown may use the main-road curve information. Depending on the distance to the curve and the vehicle’s current speed, the system may not slow the vehicle enough, or it may slow the vehicle sharply.
|
|
If the navigation route is set to the main road but the vehicle is following a branch road, Highway Curve Zone Auto Slowdown may briefly respond to curve information for the main road.
If the system determines that the vehicle has left the planned route to enter a highway interchange or junction, Highway Curve Zone Auto Slowdown will not operate.
|
|
If no destination is entered in the navigation system, Highway Curve Zone Auto Slowdown uses curve information for the main road.
Even after leaving the main road, Highway Curve Zone Auto Slowdown may briefly respond to navigation data for a highway curve.
WARNING
Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control is a convenience feature and does not replace safe driving. Keep your attention on the road, obey traffic laws and remain responsible for the way the Kia Sportage is driven. The vehicle manufacturer is not responsible for traffic violations or accidents caused by the driver.
Speed-limit information from the navigation system may differ from signs and limits on the road. The driver must check the speed limit that applies to the road or lane being used.
Highway Curve Zone Auto Slowdown is cancelled when the vehicle leaves the main highway or motorway to enter an ordinary road, interchange, junction, rest area or similar location. Stay alert when leaving the highway.
Traffic ahead and the vehicle’s operating conditions can affect Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control. Continue to monitor the road and surrounding traffic.
When towing a trailer or similar load, the vehicle may not slow down sufficiently. Drive with care and be prepared to control the vehicle yourself.
After passing through a highway or motorway tollgate, Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control operates using information for the first lane. If you enter another lane, the system may not function as intended.
If you press the accelerator while Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control is active, the vehicle accelerates and the system does not slow it down. If the accelerator is not pressed firmly enough, however, the vehicle may still decelerate.
If you accelerate and then release the accelerator while Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control is active, the vehicle may not slow sufficiently, or it may decelerate rapidly to a safe speed.
Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control may not operate if the curve is too sharp or too gentle.
Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control is an additional driver assistance feature, not a substitute for attentive driving. The driver must always check the vehicle’s speed and distance from traffic ahead and drive with care.
NOTE
There may be a delay between navigation guidance and the point when Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control begins or ends its operation.
The speed shown on the instrument cluster may differ from the speed information shown by the navigation system.
Even when the vehicle is travelling below the Smart Cruise Control set speed, acceleration may be limited if a curve lies ahead.
If Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control is active while the vehicle leaves the main road for an interchange, junction, rest area or similar location, the system may continue operating briefly.
Road conditions, including uneven surfaces and narrow lanes, may make the system’s deceleration feel insufficient.
