Kia Sportage: Limitations of Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist - Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist malfunction and limitations - Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA): (if equipped) - Driver assistance systemKia Sportage: Limitations of Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist

Kia Sportage Owner’s Manual (5th Generation, NQ5; 2022+) / Driver assistance system / Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA): (if equipped) / Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist malfunction and limitations / Limitations of Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist

Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) may not detect nearby traffic reliably in every situation. It may also issue a warning or provide assistance unexpectedly when visibility, sensor conditions or the surrounding road environment affect detection. Use particular care in the following circumstances:

BCA braking assistance may also be unavailable in certain situations. Stay alert and be prepared to brake yourself when:

WARNING

  • Driving on a curved road

On a curved road, BCA may not detect a vehicle travelling in the adjacent lane and may not operate as expected.

Always monitor the road and surrounding traffic while driving, including when the road bends.

On a curve, BCA may also interpret a vehicle in the same lane as a nearby vehicle and respond unexpectedly.

Continue to assess road and traffic conditions yourself; do not rely on BCA as a substitute for attentive driving.

  • Driving on an inclined road

On a slope, BCA may not detect a vehicle in the adjacent lane correctly. It may instead detect the ground or a roadside structure.

Stay alert to the road layout and surrounding traffic whenever you are driving on an incline.

  • Driving where the road merges or divides

Where lanes merge or divide, BCA may not detect a vehicle travelling in the adjacent lane.

Check the surrounding traffic and road conditions carefully as the lanes change.

  • Driving where adjacent lanes are at different heights

BCA may not operate correctly when adjacent lanes are at different heights. It may fail to detect a vehicle on a road with a change in lane level, such as at an underpass connection or a grade-separated intersection.

Remain attentive to road and traffic conditions in these areas.

WARNING

  • Switch BCA off before towing a trailer or another vehicle.

  • Strong electromagnetic waves may interfere with BCA and prevent it from operating correctly.

  • BCA may be unavailable for approximately three seconds after the vehicle is started while the front view camera or rear corner radars initialise.
